Wednesday Whining - What Does Well Regulated Mean Anyway?

When do we get to talk about the first part of the Second Amendment and how keeping guns out of the hands of extremists could cut down on the number of mass shootings at schools and churches?

Here's a refresher on what the Second Amendment says:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

ANOTHER mass shooting. ANOTHER one. with a semi-automatic and "multiple mazagines."

i discharged a lot of heartbreak and outrage at the last one, just a couple of weeks ago. the gabby giffords mass shooting is still fresh, too. and virginia tech. and columbine. 101 california street. etc.

W of the day: integrating two people's ideas for one piece, with bonus formatting issues. i hate formatting issues.

runner-up: anyone who asks "when's the deadline?" or "when do you really need this?", because only so much can be stuffed in at the last second.

Kathy a.--I hate formatting issues. Passing chocolate. (I found a great dark kind with almonds and sea salt. yum)

AW: I am LOVING the mystery series by Jacqueline Winspear featuring the wonderful character of Maisie Dobbs. Many many thanks to Liz for turning me on to this series. And, if you have any other suggestions, I would love to know.....

KathyA - the mass shootings are so disheartening. Big sigh.

And formatting issues are whine worthy. I have spent my day formatting. But I sort of enjoy it.

Whine: grumpy today. Everyone who usually cheers me up is busy. And that's making me feel lonely and grumpy.

I will pick up kathy a's usual whine of conference call woes. We (1) discussed the last call; (2) discussed the exact same issues we've been discussing, in one way or another, for the entire ~10 years I've been involved with the organization; and (3) discussed whether we should have an in-person meeting or continue with another conference call. UGH. I hung up early, during item #3.

Further W: hubby was taking vacation days this week. So far, he has had a meeting, a looming (old person) death, and now an attempted suicide to deal with. (Sorry to be crass about dying people, it is just a bit old-hat around here).

AW: we had a great time with our anniversary getaway last week, no one died, we got free food and desserts (yes, multiple times), and remembered why we like each other.

Yay Experanza, for remembering why you like each other. Aww.

And sorry for the bleed between home and work.

Agreed on gun-regulation whines. Sympathies for work whines, especially when they involve bad questions (hey! There really *are* bad questions).

Also boo to conference calls that don't accomplish anything. Esperanza, I've been on that exact call more times than I can count. Argh.

NL - someone told me a few weeks ago that I might enjoy that series. I must check it out.

W: I finished book two of a really good book trilogy and the third one hasn't been written yet! It's the Deborah Harkness series with "A Discovery of Witches" and "Shadow of Night".

Sorry for grumpiness and work bleeding incidents (sooo been there).

crap. Now we're adding a probable cancer diagnosis in the soon-to-be father of the bride. Universe: did you not get the "On Vacation" memo?

Thinking losing myself in a mystery may be what I need. Thanks for the recommendations, everyone.

((( esperanza ))) good you had that away time. sorry so much is raining down.

Oh Esperanza. Hope things improve.

And yay Kathy!

Whine: I am trying to figure out all of the grump in my head. It should be AW: I have a date tonight. But all I can think is W: what shoes to wear??

Sue said...

Enjoy your date Sarah!! Not that I'm a shoe expert, but I suggest wearing the shoes that make you feel light on your feet. Happy feet - happy times!

kathy a. said...

oooh, a date! i'm no help on shoes, because my answer is always: comfortable ones.

mr. fix-it division: so, my son came by last night to work on his car. now we have TWO inoperable cars belonging to him, sitting respectively in the garage and driveway. (the idea with car I was that he could harvest parts for car II. that didn't work out so well.)

kudos to son, who tries so hard to be self-reliant and frugal and not indebted; and to my beloved, who assisted with the ordeal, and then sent son home with an operable car. the car son was too proud to take as a christmas present.

classic trash whine: my beloved cleaned the garage over the weekend, filling half the can. my daughter went on a cleaning binge in her room, loading a 33 gal. bag to bursting; that would have filled half the can, absent an intervention from the trash fairy. kitchen trash gets dibs, duh.

Thanks for the lego giggle, kathy a. To my knowledge, no one around here has stuffed a lego up her or his nose.

That is an Old Skool trash whine for sure.

Sarah, how exciting about the date. If he's looking at your shoes instead of your face, he's not the one. I vote flip flops. Oh wait. I vote flip flops for just about every occasion between April and October. Never mind.

kathy a. said...

hear, hear, esperanza! If he's looking at your shoes instead of your face, he's not the one.

Sarah at Ratatat said...

That is an awesome axiom. And I don't think he noticed my shoes. But...hmmm...I don't think that's going anywhere. AW: the movie was good.
