Wednesday Whining - Game Night With Friends Edition

So we were supposed to go camping this past weekend, but it was going to pour down rain at the campground both days so we decided to bail (ha!) and made plans with friends instead.

Our friends live 5 doors down from us, and they came over and we all played Ticket to Ride and Bananagrams. And a good time was had by all, and we're going to do it again.

Yes.

If you've never played Ticket to Ride, here's Wil Wheaton to tell you how!

What's going on in your lives?

game night! that sounds a whole lot better than camping in the rain.

friends 5 doors down sounds priceless.

my mind. have you seen it anywhere?

Yay game night!!! That brings back really good memories....

I adore Wil Wheaton.

AW: I'm ready to start pulling my sabbatical report together. I have gathered all the necessary information on my study topic and now must turn it into something that will not induce coma in readers.

Wish me luck pixies - I'm hoping to punch this out before Monday.

I hope it's okay to post about silly work stuff. I know that a report that will be read by (maybe) a dozen people doesn't count for much in this past week's bigger picture.

Somehow though, it seems that the Pixie Ball with the usual pixie "whines of all varieties" is itself an affirmation of the fullness of life that stands firm in the face of tragedy.

Our whines say "We Keep Moving Forward. No Matter What."

Have a good day friends!

Also, this is EXACTLY the right place for whining about the mundane when the world is spinning off its access in other areas.

Just because Syria's exploding, and a man killed and injured people in a theatre doesn't mean that the annoyances of every day life aren't just as annoying. Life may seem more precious and fragile, but it's still not all birthday cake and balloons.

Thanks Liz.

W: 2.5 weeks later, Sweet is still running a fever. Yes, we've been back to the doctor. Ears look better, she feels better, she must have a virus of some kind.

W: I am tired of grumpy Sweet. She's not all--how did you say it, Liz--"birthday cake and balloons" on a good day. When she doesn't feel 100%, well, it's more like cow patties and jellyfish.

W: For some reason, I thought it was a good idea to do a sermon on David & Bathsheba this Sunday.

AW: at least no one will fall asleep

Cow patties and jellyfish may get elevated risk of mullet.

I'm not up on my David and Bathsheba, I'm sorry to say.

nominate esperanza for mullet, for "more like cow patties and jellyfish." :)

sue -- go team go, on punching the thing out!

silly whines are teh best ones, obviously. they make the world go round. ;)

David & Bathsheba: lust, adultery, rape, attempted cover-up leads to murder and collateral damage. All activities of God's "chosen one." Sounds like the news, no?

kathy a. said...

oy, esperanza.

Mind you, I had other choices. This one seemed good at the time...a whine entirely of my own making.

liz said...

Yikes. That's a hard one. Connecting it to Paterno, no?

esperanza said...

ooh, that's good, Liz. Adding it to my list of ideas.

AW: did i mention that my friend lined up a bunch of energetic young people who are helping on bits and pieces of Giant Project? they are at another location, so they are doing this essentially for a stranger. i conspired with somebody to have lunch sent in today, and apparently everybody is happy. food makes the team, i tell you.

Esperanza - you're brave. And poor you and Sweet! 2.5 weeks is a long time. Hugs.

W: we are on a short vacation in a drought and it has been rainy for 36 hours. I am amused. I wasn't in the mood to swim the whole time. The kids were happy we went to an indoor amusement park and did rides and such.

W: unbloggable online dating story. Whine. Ugh. It will resolve. At least people show their crazy early enough that I don't even want to date them?

kathy a. said...

sarah -- yay for a vacation w/happy kids! funny about the rain.

way better to find out sooner rather than later if someone is a nut.

W of the Giant Project: really a bunch of things need to be done, and many depend on other people. it is a scheduling nightmare. things keep getting pushed back. only so much can happen last-minute, ya know? please send anti-cranky thoughts.

Sarah at Ratatat said...

Sending you many happy thoughts, Kathy. And scheduling mojo!

AW: We all made it home from vacation. And I have a smile on my face.

Sue said...

Sending happy Giant Project thoughts kathy!

kathy a. said...

thanks for the thoughts and mojo!

i was going to additionally whine about my daughter's depression, how she sleeps all day many days, and the irregular and not-much eating, which have had me worried. and i am not going to that nagging place that only makes things worse. argh.

but she got up early today, ate breakfast, plans work on a job application, wants to run later, and has agreed to shop for and cook dinner. so perhaps things are turning a corner.

Kathy a--I hope things do turn a corner for your daughter! And also for your project!

W: Worrying about children is exhausting. ALso, summer and its lack of intense time committments is excellent and restful in some ways, unstructured, and great until that moment when somehow the switch flips and the kids can't stand playing with each other for one. more. second.
Arg.

AW: I am completely enjoying reading the Maisie Dobbs series suggested by Liz! Thanks so much for the suggestion!!!!

it's a slow turn, if you know what i mean. slow.

i think this was about the time of year that i started thinking of the Most Wonderful Day for parents -- back to school day!

Awards coming later today.

Yes, kathy a, you have that memory scheduled correctly. The Baboos are already asking, and I am ready.
