Focusing on the Anti-Whines this week!
Work trip out of town this weekend was a bit unsettled and we embarked expecting the worst, but everything fell into place and went smoothly, and I got to go home early with a bag full of mission accomplished. How often does that happen?
Got to have dinner with my favorite aunt-in-law. She's been ill, but they diagnosed finally and now she is better! And we had good restaurant karma -- 1.5 hour waits (!!!) at all the restaurants in this area she took me to, but we scored end seats at the bar within minutes, ate well, and had a good catching up in a reasonably quiet corner.
Did not need the Software To Resolve Family Angst after all, due to the previously undiscovered Miracle of Re-Booting. The clerk said software is not returnable. Got to return it anyway; she gave up when I quietly pointed out it was in original packaging and started reading the receipt for that particular fine print. She issued a stern warning for the future, to preserve her integrity. :)
What is happening up your way?

Posting from a phone ... So short and error prone...
Baby boy needs surgery again, having not healed right the first time. I want to cry for him . At least we can wait til after summer fun is over so he won't miss out.
Condo stll. Not. Sold.
iPhone won't let me fix that :-(
((( jenr ))) i'm so sorry about your baby. sending pixie love.
the condo, that's just unfair.
Oh, JenR, what a huge bummer about baby's surgery. So sorry. And sorry about the condo.
AW: thermostat indeed set at esperanza's preferred temperature while hubby is out of town. (Actually, above my preferred temp, as we were encouraged to save energy this afternoon, which was VERY HOT.
AW: another fun horse riding session for Baboos ("only" 90 degrees at 9 AM)
AW: may finally be learning what makes Sweet tick. Answer: she's very much like her mother. Second BD party in two days about did her in last night. Remedy: 2 hours straight by herself in her room. Clue: my attempt to send her to her room as punishment for her grocery store behavior was met with "ok, Mommy!" Ahem. Family resemblance, there.
Like how I disguised those whines in the AW's?
Oh JenR, sorry about the surgery for Baby boy. And about the condo.
I nominate JenR for style though - her first sentence is a poem!!!
kathy a. - yay for the Miracle of Re-booting!!! Nice work on the return of the software. Great news about your aunt-in-law!
esperanza - our eldest son is like a Psychological Mini-Me. I figured this out when he was about 6 years old and he was making. me. crazy. Once I discovered it was a lot like "me" making me crazy, I cut him significant slack. Actually, that was about the time I decided his mildly eccentric ways were "charming."
Ah, the things we do to cope.....
AW: Report yesterday from my Head to Toe Alien Abduction-like Physical Exam:
All. Good.
Yaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!
AW: 4 headaches
W: I'm not going to know if I'm feeling this good simply because I'm away from work - until I go back to work.
AW: Enough of that! For now, I'm just going to enjoy it!
Shoot!
Part of my AW was lost.
That should say:
4 headaches in 3 weeks!!!!
very clever framing of anti-whines, esperanza! some quiet time to settle down can work wonders, sometimes.
sue, great news about the physical, and the low profile of the headache monster!
AW: I had a news-paper article that I'd quoted from 3 weeks ago handy on my desk just now when someone accused me of misquoting them. Turns out, I had the quote from the article word-for-word, including their grammar error.
Pack-rat tendencies for the win!!
W: I can't find my stapler under all this crap.
Liz for Old Skool! There's never a stapler around when you need one.
liz -- always good to have your documentation. much sympathy on the desk piles.
people at my old office took to labeling their staplers, so often did they disappear. hard to imagine one just sinking under the paper...
I posted a rebuttal to Mr. You-Misquoted-Me on my blog. With pictures.
Very well said Liz!
I'm so glad you had the original article!
Hooray for boring checkups and mostly-absent headaches, Sue! And the Piles Filing System, Liz! I know it well.
W: struggling to find summer balance. Too much to do = cranky Baboos. Too little to do = cranky Baboos. Still in search of the middle sweet spot.
AW: renewed friendship today w/woman who has Baboos same age as ours. Who are perhaps even more quirky than ours. And we had sweet potato fries at lunch.
yay for a renewed friendship! and how great is that, same-age friends to keep the baboos company?
does anyone else bolster their sense of accomplishment by adding things that came up to the to do list, just so they can be crossed off, too?
My parents do that. They wrote a book of check lists back in the early '80's, and in the foreward, they talk about it.
cool! so, i can pass this off as "following an honored tradition." ;)
Wow! That's awesome Liz!
I do love a good list....
I do it too.
In the spirit of real antiwhines...
AW: *wonderful* night's sleep for all three of us. Made for a much better day. Let us learn from this experience ;)
AW: potential disaster avoided on interstate today. Trucker (who was doing his best to avoid making said disaster) thanked me for my role with a nice headlight flash, horn toot, and wave.
AW: Sweet did great with the OT eval. No real surprises, just a long road ahead. But "anxious shyness" diagnosis was nowhere in sight. Do we dare hope for improvement?
Yay for good sleep and better days!! And double yay for averted accidents and Sweet's evaluation.
That really is a good day esperanza!
Liz and her stapler line made me LOL so hard, I disturbed a cat!
Much love to JenR. <3 I'm so sorry you have to go through this again.
ACA UPHELD!!!! WOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!! PARTY!!!!!!
And yay to a good day, Esperanza!
happy dance!
keep 'em coming. awards will be friday.

omg, liz. i'm crying and laughing. how amazing.
What kind of dingaling puts sunscreen all over her children and all over herself except for her FACE?!?! That's right, me. Outside for 1 1/2 hours this afternoon. Little pink and hot cheeked. Sigh. Chalk it up to harried mother syndrome.
Happy Birthday, Kathy A!
