Look at the time...

... it's a new week already! This year is just zipping along.

Back today from a wonderful conference! Great sessions, fired me up, and I got to see a gerbillion colleagues and friends. This is my annual fix; don't see my people much, working at the home office.

And also, great dinner with my fabulous aunt! Pixies, she had tales of cyber-dating at age 72, and nailing losers via her own investigation. My aunt rocks! but I have to admit it is a little weird to hear some things. We were on more familiar ground updating about relatives, etc.

Little whine: sheesh, do I have a lot of work to do this year. Nothing like hearing from your smartest friends about all these great ideas.

W: rain. AW: rainbows!

What's new in your world?

Have I whined about Sweet Baboo being sick lately? Oh, right. Every week you say? Yeah. This week's verson has a "junky" cough. I think we're off to the doctor tomorrow.

AW: On a trip to the grandparents, we went several times to the playground near their house. AW #1 is that I no longer have to show Sweet how to play on a playground. She did things by herself! And had fun! AW #2 is that you have never seen anything cuter than Mini on the swings. She giggles constantly. And then she wanted to do the slides all by herself. Fun times.

I'm glad the conference re-energized you kathy. They do have a tendency to do that, don't they?

Anti-Whine: I got through almost all of the remaining photo albums that I am arranging into photo boxes and larger memory boxes. BIG project - I had no idea it would be this much work, but now that it's almost done - Yay me!!!!!

Weird Moment of the Day: A baby picture of me taken in 1960 when I was a year old is over-exposed, as pictures tended to be back in the day. Weird part???? The woman standing behind sweet baby me is ...... wait for it..... Me.

Creeeeeeeepy. I look about 20 in the background overexposed shot. If that isn't bad enough, I'm looking at the baby! Sheesh. Even hubby was creeped out.

AW: At least the "overexposed-me-from-the-future" wasn't wielding a large knife. Yes. That definitely would have been worse.

Oh esperanza, you just can't get a break from the bleh at your house. Ick. I hope SB is feeling better soon.

What's lovelier than the sound of a baby laughing?

kathy a. said...

oh, there is a baby trend this week!

esperanza -- hope for all of you that sweet is feeling better, and yay, mini and sweet!

sue -- good on the photo sorting project! and, i don't know what to say about that baby photo....

my son's neighbor's baby arrived a bit abruptly [bathroom floor at home], but is healthy! and she is named after my son's girlfriend. i'd better finish that baby quilt, huh?

W: Snow and ice and attendant mishigas.

AW: At home in my pjs with my son.

esperanza said...

Liz, I don't even know what mishigas are (is?), but it doesn't sound good.

AW: 'twas not the bronchitis I feared. 'Twas the double ear infection.

W: 'Twas #3 ear infection in as many months. Which triggered the pediatrician's "we might need to talk about tubes" radar. Especially as we don't want all that fluid in her ears to garble her hearing and delay her speech development any more than it already is. Sigh. Back in ten days to check out the eardrums after the latest round of antibiotic fun.

Liz Miller said...

Mishigas is Yiddish for craziness.

I'm sorry about the possible tubes.

kathy a. said...

my daughter had the constant ear infections, and i want to say that tubes were just the greatest for her. even though she needed 3 sets over time; even though she was really barfy with anesthesia. by the time we got to tubes, she had speech problems because she couldn't hear. and speech therapy is wonderful, but hearing is even better. also, no more ear infections.

A pox upon you "to do" list.

That is all.

oh, it's quiet in here....

Pixies, the US will no longer defend DOMA: http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2011/February/11-ag-222.html I am so happy!

esperanza said...

Here, I'll whine more.

I have a load of laundry on the laundry room floor. I can no longer remember/tell if it is clean or dirty.

Mini is still teething.

Liz Miller said...

Dancing the happy dance re: DOMA. Now THAT's the President I worked for!

Going back into my work-shaped hole now.

kathy a. said...

esperanza: on the floor is my clue that it's dirty. a person needs clear signals, in a busy life. so sorry about the teething.

Hugs to esperanza for the baboos.

antiwhine: homemade bread. hot from the oven. dripping with butter. Tried putting a pan of water in the hot oven while the loaves were baking, and it made all the difference. So. yummy.

anitwhine: school vacation, and have had a fun time so far (knock wood). Board games rock.

Doctor's appointment that took all morning returned good news for Neighbor Girl.

Have a meeting tonight with her worry doc, and have found that going with her to this doc has been helping me too. Ironically, Nieghbor Girl (who loves this doc) doesn't want to go tonight because she isn't worrying about anything right now. Yahoo!!! So it's just me, going to talk about her. It's all good.

That is all. I am on a bread high.

mmmmmmmmmm homemade bread. You may inspire me NL.

kathy a., I have the same on-the-floor policy. I was not the person who placed the pile on top of the freezer. Clean? well, it might have been before it went up there. Ahem. My whine is people who don't do things the way I do them. Can you tell I'm tired and grumpy?

Sue said...

sorry about the teething baboo - that's so harsh. I remember wishing it were me instead...

NL....your bread sounds perfectly heavenly, though I'll have to have mine virtually as I'm back to my gluten-free life again. My tummy likes it better that way. Doesn't make much difference with my sad and achy headache, unfortunately.

AW: My niece arrived safe and sound from her third and hopefully last tour in Afghanistan!!!! Yay!!!!

AW: Heard back from the Sabbatical Grant people at the Louisville Institute. Because I'm a pastor, they are giving me until Aug 15th 2011 to apply for my designated sabbatical which is from April 9, 2012 - July 31, 2012.

Somewhere between now and the madness of the next few weeks I need to tweek my grant application so it is Perfect!!! I *really* want this grant, but I'm so new at writing proposals, I'm a bit nervous that I'll miss something important. Yikes!

W: Presbytery weekend. Ugh. I will be imprisoned in a cold church basement from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon. Halp meh.

OK, I have now re-read my whines and realize the location of the questionable laundry is completely unclear. As I entered the laundry room after my weekend away, said laundry was on top of the freezer. Not knowing the status of said laundry, I grumbled and tossed it on the floor. I later realized that it resembled a load I might have left in the dryer. Then entered the clean/dirty conundrum.

OK. I have now talked to a friend whose ex-husband is being particularly twerpy. I have a newfound appreciation for my laundry-relocating spouse. (AW)

keep whining!

yummers, NL -- nice warm buttery bread sounds perfect!

sue -- such great news that your niece is back! and yay, sabbatical!

esperanza -- ze laundry wars is definitely old skool material. who hasn't had a version at their house, i ask you? yeah, living with the laundry questions sure beats the tales of friends in/after divorce...

Yay Sue for your niece!

Whine: fireplacing vertigo. Doesn't come often any more, knock wood, but is annoying me today. not sure if it's true vertigo (ie my medicine would help) or just slight dizziness from impending cold, low iron, etc.

Could take medicine and see, but if it's not that, it will kinda knock me out (and I'll still be dizzy), and I am on kid duty for our vacation week...

antiwhine: kids getting old enough to survive if I am asleep an hour or so....but still.....

Maybe I should just eat more bread......

Oh NL, I do dislike the vertigo. I only get it now and then, but it's so not fun. I hope you stop spinning soon.

I know WW isn't really meant for the big whines, but oh my, what a day can bring.

I walked into my office with the phone already ringing. It was the ER and one of our families asked for me, so off I went.

The gentleman that died literally held me on the day I was born. The surviving wife and my mother were best friends from high school until my Mom's death in 92. B was the kind of guy who remembered my birthday all of those years when my dad forgot (when Mom wasn't there to remind him). He was just such a special man, and in the twinkling of an eye, he's gone.

I can't quite process it yet, so pixies, forgive me for trying to get it into my brain by actually typing the words. I've called all of the other people in our church who need to know, and the words sound like they're coming out of someone else's mouth.

This one's going to be difficult, to say the least. I call it Painful Privilege. I wouldn't have anyone else do the service, but oy, it is going to be rough.

((Sue))
Of course WW is for big whines too.

kathy a. said...

(((( sue )))) omg, how often do we know someone literally our entire lives? know someone in such close ways? how very good for his family and him that you were there, bringing comfort and love and bearing witness. sending many hugs to all of you. xoxoxoxoxo

kathy a. said...

as for the service, sue -- who else? i can't speak to the theological side of things, but it means the world to have a service presided by someone who knew and loved the one who has gone. just know that.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your support.

Is it too late to just marry a pediatrician? Two trips in three days, sigh.

Mini: fever, *no* ear infection, plenty o' snot
Sweet: no fever, double ear infection, plenty o' cough, no wheezing, no bronchitis
Mama: bodily fluids overload. At least I don't have vertigo (sorry, NL, hope you're better soon)

Sue said...

Sorry esperanza, no doc, just a preacher. Not much help with the snot, but good for moral support. Right??

AW: My sisters rock the catbox. Seriously, they are amazing. Every now and again it's good to stop and be thankful. Today, I leaned on my sisters and they were there. It doesn't get much better than that.

This week has been a busy every minute, and I am exhausted... but 3 more appointments today, and a toddler birthday party tomorrow. Sunday, I will nap.

amy said...

Oh, sue, so many hugs for you!

Esperanza, some days I wonder a similar wonder -- should I have married a doc or a mechanic? But then I realize that if I had, I would have days when I wished I had married a computer nerd, so in the end, I think I probably got the right guy.

As for me this week, I think the events of this morning pretty much sum up my entire week. On the one hand, I have a clean tub now. On the other, it was because Tater pooked in the bath.
