Wednesday Shoe Whining

I know that in the grand scheme of things that this whine I am about to relate is very minor.

Josef Seibel has discontinued the Adelle line of sandals.

These sandals are magic. I have the world's flattest feet. Narrow at the heel, much wider at the toe. Skinny, skinny ankles. And these sandals fit. Mostly because they were able to be adjusted at both ankle and toe, but also because of the way the sole was shaped and the angle at which the ankle strap was placed.

People, I've had 4 pairs of these sandals, and wore them knocking for every politico that came down the pike. I knocked two-hundred doors in one day in them, and yes, my feet still hurt, but I didn't have a single blister. My toes didn't get bruised nail-beds. I mean, these sandals are made by ELVES.

And they don't make them any more. I've hunted down one last pair (being shipped from Canada). They're sending a different pair, too, that they think might be a close match.

Meanwhile, I'm just curling up into a ball and whimpering.

It stinks when they discontinue a good shoe! Or other stuff you really like and need -- such as my moisturizer; have about run out of the emergency supply procured from ze intertubes. Not fair!

Oooh! I know that whine. I'm madly tracking down a very specific baby spoon, which is so magical (soft on her tender gums, but not so soft that E can bite chunks out of it, and she loves it so much that she holds it when we go for walks). It is still sold in the US, but not by any dealer willing to ship to Canada. I've found a few online retailers in CA, but they're all clear across the country and will charge $10 for shipping. I need to figure out whether $15 is worth it, or whether we guard the three we have with our lives, and try to find some other brand's equivalent.

Because, you guys, E ACTUALLY EATS if we use this spoon. She cries to mealtimes with any other one. Babies are weird.

AW: another fantastic physical therapy appointment! E charmed everyone, and is so ahead of things with motor skills that the PT didn't bother fully assessing her development. I don't need her to be off the charts with development (heaven knows I could have waited another month to have her started crawling), but everyone eases off when her development's this good.

Also, the PT is putting together a VERY thorough report to send to our over-eager pediatrician, to prove that E's doing great and that he can back off. So, that's cool.

W: The teething. It returns. Two at once again. A certain small someone has decided not to sleep until the teeth come in, even when heavily medicated. Pass the caffeine.

Guard the spoons!! And also you might continue trying to work in other fun spoons. We had this huge crisis when we lived in Japan and my son's special squeaky pacifiers were biting the dust, and THIS WAS BEFORE THE INTERNET, but the squeaky num was his lovey and it was totally worth the long distance emergency calls to have some shipped. Kids bond on the darndest things.

Yay for the PT! And yay for the new teeth!

My favorite flip flops were "improved" and made 1/2" narrower, even though I went up a size. My little toe needed that 1/2" to stay in the flip flop, darnit!

Three weeks till school starts. I am madly scrambling to get therapy appointments scheduled around school.

W: In the meantime, I receive a bill for OT appointments from LAST YEAR. First bill I've gotten. $600. They will be getting a phone call first thing in the morning. They know not with whom they are dealing.

Excuse me, they narrowed the flip flops? Unspeakable. Also, give those insurance demons heck, Esperanza.

Diva cat has decided she really really likes to park her creaky cat parts next to the hot air vent on my laptop. Who says an old cat can't learn new tricks? Sadly, the work I have parked over there means she is getting (respectfully) tossed from that prime real estate on regular occasions.

Having a little sad as Sweet's contemporaries start kindergarten and their mommies post first-day-of-school pictures on facebook. I *know* we made the right decision for her, but at the same time, I wish it was a decision we wouldn't have even had to consider.

(Hugs) for esperanza. I hope you and Sweet do something extra-special together today.

Shame on McD.

Esperanza, Sweet will have a first day this year, too! And a new school? From her perspective, it will be just as full. xoxo

Silent Wednesday? Say it ain't so!

Somebody around here is having a hairball-fest. Another artistic installation on the bed. Brava!

My daughter went to get a certain brand of topical feline worm medication, because there is that, too. The salesjerk said they were out, and sold her DOG medication to mix in the food. I mean, that might work on tiny stupid dogs if we had any, but I did specify CAT and TOPICAL and THIS BRAND for some good reasons. I definitely blame the salesjerk, but he's probably good at sales.

It started heating up around here, so it must be time for stupid dog tricks! Our large former family room is now called "the dog room," and my husband refers to junior dog as "my sweet precious baby girl," so I want to emphasize that these are loved dogs. But junior led the elderly and nearly blind senior on a breakin and foraging expedition through the entire house yesterday, during which the previously full cat kibble dishes were extensively raided and licked clean. (Being dogs, they would have taken care of any art installations, but yesterday was a slow day in the artistic world.) Well, there were protests.

Well, that's the wildlife report.

Ooh Kathy, that is a big wildlife report.
Here's our light-hearted distraction for the day: Christina Bianco singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as famous divas. My favorite is Chenoweth, what's yours?

Oh, that's fabulous, Liz!

W1: Always the teething. E just woke up, after sleeping for only two and a half hours, and now won't go back to sleep. So very tired. Lots of crying out in the middle of the night, in addition to her extra wake up times. C'mon, little tooth! Just break through and let us sleep!

W2: Mr. Q went and bought CF lightbulbs for our new lamp, but bought "cool white" instead of "warm white" bulbs. It's like a small office building over in the corner of my living room.

Divorce. Juvenile court. Mental illness. Boomerang children. Oh my!

Poor E and the sad sad angry toofie! And the light bulbs -- "like a small office building" is mullet material.

To follow up on last week's sorrow, my friend's body was identified this week. What we expected, and yet still too awful for words. The small silver lining is seeing that many people she knew throughout her life are joined in gratitude for having known her. A fund established for her beloved daughter's care and education has drawn over 400 donations so far. S touched a lot of lives.

Hug your people. xoxo

(((( Miranda )))) omg, that is a lot all at once. Sending much love.

Old Skool: toilet leak. Think this means a date with the plumber, but it's not bad enough to call on Sunday and pay double. Knock wood.
