November -- how did that happen?

The months are just zipping by.  Weird!  Since it is no longer August, I guess it is becoming more acceptable to see all the holiday items everywhere.  But I do not feel mentally prepared to crank up the holiday planning just yet.

When the time "falls back," it gets dark so darned early.  But it is nice to wake up with some light outside.

U.S. Pixies, don't forget to vote tomorrow (if you haven't already)!  And fingers crossed for our own  Doorbell Queen!

W/AW:  SIL will be moving to her new place this week.  The paperwork is pretty daunting, but mostly done and faxed.  The new place is in a gorgeous area, with redwoods and a river and cute little towns nearby.  Her old place is institutional; this one is homey, and has a big enclosed garden where she can safely walk.  Still some loose ends, but we got really lucky.  Knock wood.

Pet report:  There is more peacefulness in the realm, as the cats seem to be working out their differences.  Minnie is friendly with humans, but has behaved like a street thug with the senior cats.  The big cats are shy, but have been asserting themselves more, demanding respect. They have all begun sharing sunbeams.  Yay.

What's new with you?

YAY for new place!!! That's AWESOME!!

Yay for kittehs sharing sunbeams!

AW: my son is pretty much a rock star. I adore him.

W: What are people sometimes deliberately difficult?

kathy a. said...

Oh, great about MM!

Dunno about people; sometimes they just suck.

A new place for SIL! Crossing my fingers that they are able to provide her more consistent care there, and that she settles down better with the homey environment.

AW: E's foot is getting better, and she made it a whole day without painkillers.

W: I keep making a concerned face at her when she limps around the house. The doctor in ER told me to take her to our GP if she gets worse, and she's definitely getting better, but I just fret. What if it's healing wrong? What if there's something wrong in her foot? I'm just being a worry wart.

AW: but she slept super well last night! Eleven hours, when she's been getting closer to 10 most nights! Between that and the fact that I dug out my SAD lamp this afternoon, I feel like a new person. (Even if we didn't gain an hour on Saturday night like everyone else did, since my province refuses to change our clocks.)

esperanza said...

QWP, gaining an hour is not all it's cracked up to be, since no one can reset Baboo internal clocks. 5:00! It's the new 6:00!

kathy a, hooray! for a new place!

AW: Sweet is showing moderate snotty nose and coughing improvement. After only 5 weeks.

W: I wasn't informed but it was apparently Let's Not Listen to Mama Day.

AW: neighbor stopped by with her 1.5 yr old grandson while we were playing outside. Both Baboos were super sweet with him.

kathy a. said...

QWP, it sounds like E is really getting better. Also, yay sleep!

Esperanza, I'm not exactly recommending this to anyone because it is very silly, but on oppositional days, I sometimes played a game called "Meanest Mommy in the World," and growled and gestured (to be clear I was playing a character), and ordered my children to (for example) NOT under any circumstances do __________. Which reduced them to howls of laughter and a race to accomplish the fake "forbidden" thing.

kathy a. said...

Clarification: Do not under any circumstances take a bath. Do not clean up those toys, or else. etc.

esperanza said...

Right, I caught on. :)

Clueless chunky meeting followup: Come to a meeting! With less than 36 hours' notice!

Sue said...

I'm so happy to hear that SIL will be in the new place soon. It sounds really great.

Yay for sleep!

Boo to people who are deliberately mean and also to clueless chunky meetings.

I hope E's foot continues to heal up nicely QWP. Worrying is part of the parental job description, unfortunately.

AW: I get to work at home this week. Yay!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Wish me luck: E is trying out (disposable) training pants today. She's also playing with her breakable tea set. This is all an exercise in BE CAREFUL. (It's also an exercise in "Mama, pay good attention to your toddler.")

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm doing all this on a day when Mr. Q is gone until late, for two days in a row. I suspect that she's going to be back in regular diapers and watching TV within the hour.

esperanza said...

Go, E, Go!

kathy a. said...

Yay, E! Not sure what kind of training pants you're trying, but the pull-ups we used were pretty absorbent, and they definitely helped during the potty training adventures. :)

The whole SIL thing is a stressapalooza, even though I think the move is happening for sure. Has turned my mind to mush.

esperanza said...

((kathy a))

Time change, coughing Sweet, and inexplicably pacing Mini have turned my mind to mush. Seriously--she was up last night complaining that her feet hurt. What was her remedy? pacing around the house.

esperanza said...

W: tired of gloating.

That's all.

Liz said...

I am exhausted. Opened one poll, spent most of the day at another (where my opponent also spent most of the day), closed a third.

My (very nice) Senator won reelection by the skin of his very white teeth. And the guy I was hoping would be my congress critter lost by a whole lot.

Fireplace.

Taking today and tomorrow off of politics (got business-type work to do). 2015 starts for real on Friday.

kathy a. said...

Sorry about the losses, for those who suffered them.

I woke up at 1 a.m. with hives and rashes. No idea why. Didn't sleep much, but they're gone this morning.

Liz said...

(((Kathy)))

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Ugh, sympathies to the American pixies on the outcome of yesterday. And Kathy a! Covered in hives and rash is no good.

W: yeah, I burned myself yesterday. Today we're taking things more slowly. And taking a break from the training pants until we get the real potty (as opposed to potty seat) from our friends. She needs help on the potty anyway, and the ability to feel wet seems to concern her very little. I'm going back to letting her take the lead. I'm tired.

W: but I'm more weary because my heart hurts, watching a loved one make decisions that hurt himself and others.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Burned myself OUT yesterday. I need to switch back to my other keyboard: this one keeps skipping words.

kathy a. said...

They're going to move SIL right now!! I've been so anxious that some glitch would come up.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Wonderful! I'm so relieved for you all.

Liz said...

Yay!!!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

AW: E hasn't limped all day, so far! Finally, I can stop worrying that maybe there is something horribly wrong with her foot.

Sue said...

Yay for SIL's move!!! Boo re: hives. Ick.

Yay for a non-limping Lil E, QWP.

Sending post-election hugs to all the US pixies.

Liz said...

In a closed FB group I belong to (women who live in my county), I asked if everyone voted, and if not, why not? No judging.

And one person says she didn't because she hates both parties and only votes independent. Which...well...she's either not telling the truth or woefully uninformed because there were independents running in both races in our county yesterday. One in the senate, and no fewer than THREE in the congressional.

kathy a. said...

QWP, yay for no limp! Sorry about the painfully bad decisions of a loved one.

Liz, that was a foolish thing to say -- you cannot have been the only one who noticed. And it's not like she couldn't have just said nothing.

Topping off last night's hives, had a horrible headache all morning -- took a 2.5 hour nap (I never nap) wearing sweater, heavy sox, and a blanket because I also felt freezing. So, somethin's goin' on.

esperanza said...

uh oh, kathy a. I have some chicken noodle soup on the stove right now. I'll send you some.

AW: chunky meeting was actually good. Lots of energy, people volunteering happily for tasks.

W: ended up agreeing to chair a subcommittee of the committee.

AW: not all bad, now the subcommittee meetings can be in small town instead of Big City

kathy a. said...

Thanks, Esperanza. And yay about the good chunky; yay about local meetings!

kathy a. said...

Oh, SIL got moved, and it went pretty smoothly. She was so anxious to leave the old place that she tried to pack her own stuff -- ready to go! She's a little anxious and wants her old pets back, but that seems pretty normal for her.

esperanza said...

Whew I hope it continues to go smoothly, kathy a. I can only imagine that a move for her would be even more stressful and disorienting.

Liz said...

I hope you're feeling better, Kathy.

Yay for local meetings!!

QWP, I hope you're feeling less stressed

esperanza said...

Chunky meeting was good, but man I am unaccustomed to acting like a professional grownup. I am exhausted today. Compensating by doing house-wifey things.

Sue said...

Hope you're feeling better kathy. Yay about SIL's move!

Hooray for a good chunky meeting esperanza!!

(((Liz))) Ugh. It never fails to amaze and frustrate me how people take the privilege of voting so lightly.

kathy a. said...

Feeling maybe 50% today; better than yesterday! Bleah.

The cats just slay me, they are so cute. The last few days, my shyest cat Polly has come out of seclusion to play chase-the-stick, her favorite game, when she hears Minnie playing -- which has settled Minnie some, since Polly is twice her size. And Minnie jumped up to rest by me in bed for the first time, which was awfully darned cute! But she ran off when Spot jumped up to see what was going on with his personal human's body heat; quite a change from Minnie chasing Spot away. Everybody's currently in the sunbeam.

I'm still pretty sad about a relative's considered disregard of me and my family, but trying to let that go. The letting go should be easy, but apparently I'm a slow learner.

kathy a. said...

Also, for whom it may concern, an article on vertigo: http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/04/23/colorado-doctor-finds-way-to-treat-common-vertigo/

Sue said...

Yay for kitteh comfort!!

AW: Gym membership is being used well.

W: Muscles also being used well, but oh my goodness do I hurt!

I am determined to stick with it. I have plans to use my snowshoes more this winter and I can't do it unless I'm in better shape. What's the point of 8 months of winter if you can't enjoy the snow????

Miranda said...

The 6th Circuit. Spits.

kathy a. said...

Agreed, Miranda. But there's a great dissent! And the next step is asking the entire 6th to take the case en banc -- this was just one panel of 3 judges.

kathy a. said...

Um -- this is about a panel of the 6th circuit federal court of appeal going 2-1 against gay marriage. Jerks.

Liz said...

The 6th Circuit Spits would be a great rock band name.

kathy a. said...

LOL Liz!!!

kathy a. said...

The 2 judges who signed off on that ridiculous opinion are (IMO) doomed to shame.

Posse? I got confirmation from the Dept of Health that SIL's old facility never submitted a written plan to close the unit -- meaning they lied to me about that. I suppose that all's well that ends well, but LYING to family members to COERCE them into moving someone really burns my butt.

And also, glad we got her outta there.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Is there any official way to complain about the old facility? That's terrible.

esperanza said...

Posse's on it, kathy a. But it does sound like it was best to leave.

kathy a. said...

Already made an informal complaint to the D of Health. We'll consider a formal one, because we got some really crappy treatment. Nobody else should be treated that way.

Miranda said...

The dissent was pretty awesome. :)

So glad your SIL is out of that other facility, Kathy.

Sue said...

Posse is saddled up to SIL's old facility - unfireplacingbelievable!

Posse will also make a stop to school the rock band - Sixth Circuit Spits.

W: I was speaking with a friend last evening and she asked what I've been up to. Rather than bore her with my 24/7 work life, I mentioned that I was enjoying being back at the gym. This, apparently, was her cue to sell me on her favourite yoga instructor (who teaches at another facility, not mine).

I told her I really liked the cardio workout right now and my membership entitles me to take all the yoga classes I want with no extra cost.

Again, with the crush she has on her yoga teacher. AAaaaaaagh. Make it stop!!!!

AW: I did make it stop. Closed up that conversation pretty quickly.

esperanza said...

That's just plain obnoxious, Sue.

W: If the Universe were organized in a sensible fashion, the Baboo with whom I would be alone every single Friday while the other is at kindergarten would be the self-entertaining, introverted, low energy Baboo, and I could get some other things accomplished. But instead, it's Mini.

kathy a. said...

Typhoon Mini!

Sorry about the yoga evangelist, Sue.

I'm about 5 pages into the complaint letter that beloved and I will send to the licensing division of the Dept o Health. So far. Somebody suggested a lawsuit, but that would just extend an unhealthy relationship, and our goal is making sure this doesn't happen again.

Sue said...

W: I just memorized my new go*gle password about a week ago (after changing it a month ago). Now I've had to change it again...

AW: I suppose the mental gymnastics is good for my brain, right?

kathy a. said...

I hate the password change things. And trying to remember passwords when various places have various rules [like, at least 5 letters, one capital, some numbers, do a handstand, and some other funky thing that we won't remind you about until you flunk the log-in].

Finished the complaint letter. Had an adventure involving all 4 pets, but especially the 2 cats in competition for Diva status.

It's frozen pizza and leftover night, so come on by!

We'll just see about awards, but they are not happening today.

I am contemplating a job change. I have been told of a good job where a friend is employed, and she's giving me the inside scoop on it, like as to when it will be officially posted so I can be one of the first applicants. In mentioning me to the person who'd be hiring, that person said, "Ooh, I just got chills -- she'd be PERFECT!"' so that's a step in the right direction.

I am highly dissatisfied with my current job in that I get no support from my superiors and that I have to be a punching bag and just sit back and take it. I have not been happy with the direction that the state of education is taking, and if trends continue, it will get worse before it gets better. I also feel like the administration does not like me and is trying to force me out.

So, I plan to apply, and see what happens. It would mean more money, most likely, and would mean the end of summers off, but that would balance out with more vacation and sick time, and the schedule is much more flexible in that they offer flex time and working from home.

There are pros and cons of both jobs, but I think, if nothing else,it is good to have options.

Liz said...

It is very good to have options and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Your current job is burning you out.

kathy a. said...

Yes, good lead, and good to have options!
