Whines: I ain't got none yet this week edition

Leased a brand-new 2014 Toyota Corolla (red) through our company. It's so high-falutin' I just don't know what to do with myself. Jumping directly from 1998 to 2014 is like jumping into a whole new universe of blinking lights and gizmos.

At least the blinker and windshield wiper work the same. And the gas tank lever.

What's new with you this week?

Woot, Liz hit the big time, automotively speaking! My husband got a new car a year or two back, and I'm afraid to try it -- there are the gizmos, and there is also the no-dent-yet problem. Too much pressure. ;)

AW: A local produce market has started hosting a local BBQ chef on weekends. Deee-lish! And local!

W: Must go out of town for a thing this week, and I got groovy cheap plane tix. The schedule around the thing changed, and -- seriously? The new return time will be about 3 times the cost of the original groovy cheap ticket. On SW, my favorite cheap reliable airline!! What is the world coming to????

AW: Kindergarten drop off went basically smoothly this morning. Some issues with not wanting to wear the nametag, but I think she was just needing to protest something, and the nametag was it.

W: Garage door opener batter is dead. Beeping every 30 seconds. New battery can only be obtained out of town and/or online, neither of which is happening today. Beeping continues.

kathy a. said...

Yay, Sweet!

Liz said...

Esperanza, the beeping definitely wins an award.

kathy a. said...

Can you unplug it or something? Beeping is guaranteed to make me lose my last couple of marbles.

AW: Kindergarten was "AWESOME, Mommy." So, so relieved.

W/AW: pickup line not as bad as I was dreading, but still pretty miserable. Once it started moving, it was pretty efficient.

W: not sure who is more exhausted: Sweet (who is already asleep) or me (who slept poorly, got up early, attempted to entertain Mini all day, etc). Never mind, it's me. Unfortunately, I have some work to do tonight, of the paying job variety.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Well done Sweet, on an awesome first day of kindergarten! And I hope her Mama gets a better rest tonight.

AW: We survived the first day without Fun Daddy! And only about an hour of it was absolutely horrible! (We won't address how much screen time little E got today.) So far, the transition back to school is going much better this year, even with everyone being sick.

W: you guys. This sinus thing just won't stop.

Computer whine: my password isn't working on Skype, and I think that the email address on file is an old one. Ugh.

esperanza said...

QWP, if we were closer, Lil E and Mini could use up each other's energy in the absence of entertaining big sister and Fun Daddys. And you could blow your nose in peace. Hope you feel better soon.

Esperanza, so glad Sweet had a great first day!

QWP, hope everybody's feeling better!

This weekend, I went with my beloved to visit SIL with early and severe dementia. Boy, howdy. She is having big psychiatric symptoms, was furious we did not bring her cats to the facility, accused her brother of stealing all her clothes and shoes, demanded we leave, tried to beat up her brother, twice announced she was leaving and lurched toward the exit, etc. They have her with a full-time 1:1 attendant now. Her meds [cough] do not appear to be working so well.

AW: The caretakers are very good with her. AW: The neurologist at Big Teaching Hospital has continued to be a superstar when we report the latest and ask for advice! She doesn't really have to -- her days must be busy enough with other patients and her research on this disease -- but she always responds quickly, thoughtfully, with compassion. Makes me feel more kindly toward the universe.

Aww, thanks, Liz. xoxo

Most of us are going to deal with some overwhelming crisis of a family member, one time or another. We aren't special in that regard. But we are lucky this got diagnosed, and to have professional support. She had a fairly calm period most of the last year, but unfortunately that didn't hold.

Her behavior is because her brain has turned to swiss cheese in the frontal and temporal lobes -- which we didn't know at first, but do know now. This, I sincerely don't wish on anyone. She must feel at least as miserable as she behaves.

My biggest W is really that members of my own family announced over a year ago that they don't want to hear about any of it. They don't care. I get the impression they think we should have washed our hands of SIL because she is a pain in the ass. I've known them their entire lives, and I keep wondering what planet they are from. /end rant/

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh Kathy. (((Hugs))) I'm so sorry that SIL is so unstable now. And it's so frustrating that other family members don't even want to hear about it! I'm so thankful that you have excellent professional support.

My cold is slowly improving, but I'm EXHAUSTED. E is pretty energetic, but her nose is really stuffy, and I'm trying to keep her from overdoing it.

W/AW/cuteness: I was trying to rest on the couch, when a certain sweetie brought me all the bread pans, said "pan," led me to the aprons, and then started taking bread ingredients from the cupboard. Bread-baking was needed, and is a good indoor activity (It's been ridiculously cold outside this week, and I want to wait until afternoon before we go out), but I'm tiiiiiiired!

AW: the bread is now rising, and I've convinced the sweetie to watch TV until lunch. Blessed, blessed TV. I'll never speak ill of you again.

Liz said...

Kathy, I'm sorry your family of origin is horrid, but so happy you have us to talk to about the things you'd like to talk to them about, and that you have us to talk about them. Cluesticks are being dispatched.

QWP, hooray for bread! Hooray for tv! Boo to colds and tiredness.

esperanza said...

QWP,your weather-related scheduling is just the opposite of ours! If it doesn't happen before noon, it's not happening outside.

Kathy, sorry your SIL is going through this, but so grateful you got her professional care when you did.

kathy a. said...

QWP, can I borrow E sometime? The adorableness is very salutary.

We may as well cluestick weather all over the place. Supposed to be 100F where I am going tomorrow!

AW: Daughter got the real offer; starts Thursday!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Hooray hooray for daughter!

W: a screw is missing from E's crib, and I'm leery about repairing it. She's successfully climbed into her crib before, and she climbed out of her play pen when we were on vacation, so all signs seem to point to Time To Retire the Crib. But: she loves her crib, and she sleeps so well there! Ugh. I hate messing with a good thing, especially with the possibility of her escaping from a bed.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

AW: my dad said that he'll put a bracket on that corner, as a temporary (but strong) fix, to buy me a little more time. I need to be strategic with this kid, because her crib is her most favourite place in the world.

kathy a. said...

Go, Dad. When the time comes, perhaps you can start with the same mattress and bedding on the floor? We had to make a swift change after my son nosedived out of the crib.

esperanza said...

QWP, I am loathe to do anything that interferes with Baboo sleep, and hence my own sleep. I don't know what that means for the crib, but sleep is just about our #1 priority around here.

W: chunky crap continues. Mr E got a call from his "boss" in the church hierarchy to come to a meeting Friday morning. Probably not good. All started b/c Mr. E was trying to do his job as someone's supervisor and have a hard conversation. Exploded from there.

W: not to mention, the whole situation is interfering with my sleep.

Liz said...

QWP: Here's an idea stolen from my dad. Make a "Magic Corner". Put her crib mattress on the floor. Build a strong frame around it, like a gazebo-type structure, with a big enough space for her to get in and out (maybe on the end? whatever). Drape pretty fabric over it.

Snug as a bug in a rug, can't fall out, and comforting as all heck to someone who loves sleeping in the crib, but is a climber.

Liz said...

The key is also that you can pull the mattress in and out to change the sheets and whatnot.

kathy a. said...

It's not even 7 p.m., and I'm pooped! Phone meeting early; pack; airport, flight, drive to the hotel; dinner with colleague. Heat. Work thing tomorrow, but think it is as ready as it can be.

It's only been a month since I flew to this airport, and in the interim they moved the entire rental car thingybopper a long trek past where it used to be. And did not ask my opinion!

kathy a. said...

Oh, I forgot a real W. The scanner at the airport showed some kind of blip, so they groped my leg right up to my groin, right in the middle of the airport; then grabbed around my shoulder area; then swabbed my hands for explosive residue. This just left me a stunned. I do not let people touch me in that way; and nobody could say why it was happening.

Sue said...

That sounds like a great idea Liz!

Sending good sleeping vibes to everyone. My vacation sleep routine has once again fallen into step with my natural circadian rhythms and I am sleeping well between 2:00 - 10:00 am. This is great while it lasts but as of Tuesday I need to be at work by 9:00.

Wow, that's a teeny little whine. If that's my biggest dilemma, things are good.

Sorry about the airport mess kathy - that was really over the top. Are you going to file a complaint?

Sue said...

Sorry about the ongoing chunky politics esperanza. I hope the meeting on Friday is helpful. ((((Hugs))))

esperanza said...

Thanks, Sue. In a move that seems strange to me, the personnel committee chair has also been summoned for this meeting. That would be weird in my system, but hubby is a different denomination. They are weird sometimes. ;)

W: No one told me that being the mama of a kindergartner was so exhausting.

AW: Y'all. Day 4, and she still loves it. So, so much better than I expected. More than we could have asked for, really.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

So many hugs and good thoughts for Friday's meeting, esperanza. And celebration for four days of Sweet doing well in kindergarten! I'm so glad.

Kathy a: I'm outraged on your behalf that you went through that treatment at the airport.

With the crib situation, we decided to fix the crib, and hope she still doesn't climb out, for now. I'm prioritizing sleep.

AW: today, two different tasks were made easier because of the Internet. Our provincial car insurance company had made it so you can renew your license and registration online, and so today I didn't have to leave the house and stand in a line. I also used the intent to find a used car for friends who are moving here, from far away, this weekend. Thanks to online sales divisions, I was able to narrow down the field to four good cars, from three reliable dealers, all under budget.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Internet, not intent.

Blogger ate my comment earlier.

(((Esperanza))) I hope the chunky meeting goes well for your husband. I am thinking of you both today.

Kathy, I'm so sorry about the airport incident.

Sue, I'm so glad you're having a restful vacation! My suggestion for getting ready for Tuesday's schedule is to wake up extra early on Monday and reward yourself for doing so with something extra nice for breakfast, and then go to bed early Monday night.

I don't think this will work wonders, but it may fool your brain into thinking this is not so bad after all.

kathy a. said...

Esperanza, fingers crossed about the chunky business. It does sound like a big noise was made, and perhaps that person's acting out has attracted attention.

Go, SWEET!

Sue, best with the transition back after vacation!

QWP, sounds like the crib is the place to be for now. We had no dives from daughter; but had to improvise fast with son.

AW: this work thing yesterday, it went very well! Knock wood. Good visit with a sister, also. And I got the fast, easy lane at the airport on the way back, no scanner even.

I'm still thinking about a complaint, but the time to file one would have been when it happened -- I have no names, not even a precise time, know of no witnesses, the "alarming" image is surely long gone. On the other hand, maybe if they get a bunch of complaints, someone will do something about procedures?

esperanza said...

Mr. E sent me a brief text, saying meeting was GREAT and that he is very relieved. So I don't really know what happened, but methinks supervisor's secretary needs to work on making things not sound quite so ominous.

AW: first week of kindergarten: "awesome." Sticker received for being "a good listener." Played WITH old and new friends on playground (big deal for Sweet). So, so relieved. And tired.

Liz said...

YAY SWEET!!! YAY MR. E!!!

WOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh, what a relief on both accounts, esperanza!

Good news, Esperanza!
