Gripe-a-palooza

Taxes.  Currently sorting a million pieces of paper, and I haven't even gotten to all the little wadded up receipts printed in ink that fades by tax time.  Yipee!

Further adventures of SIL:  we got a call from the hospital yesterday, something about her shoulder, they wanted us to pick her up.  We live a good hour and a half from there.  Nobody at the care home had told us about her latest fall, or that she was going to the hospital.   The discharge nurse couldn't tell us anything.  AW:  She's ok, fell again and the shoulder she broke a few weeks back was hurting.   And the director at her place called to apologize for the lapses in contact.

Wildlife report:  Spot the Brave has gotten insanely loud in his pleas for canned food, right now, he's starving to death, no don't give it to the other cats too, mine mine mine all mine.  Minerva the weirdo-brain remains devoted to shredding a box of papers under my office table, and she also figured out how to open the closet, leading her to tear up a bag of stuff I should have thrown out already.  (Old holiday card envelopes -- why?)

What's new in your neck of the woods?

ETA:  Happy St. Paddy's!

Sorry about the ongoing SIL concerns kathy. I hope everything is sorted out soon.

We get the "I'm starving" song at our house too. Usually about an hour before the standard feeding time.

AW: Upgraded my phone today. It was much less expensive than I thought it would be. And the camera is so much better!

AW: A woman at the grocery store asked me (Yes, Me!) to reach something on the top shelf for her. I was able to get it for her, though it was a bit of a reach for me too. I'm pretty sure I've never been asked to do that before. I'm five feet even and was easily two inches taller than my new grocery store friend!

Hooray for feeling tall! (5'2" here).

Hoping SiL situation gets straightened out. Them not calling you to tell you she went to the HOSPITAL isn't ok, in my opinion.

AW: Albatross document nearly completed.

W: So today I receive an email about preferred format for albatross documents. Which, needless to say, is not the format we have used.

kathy a. said...

Oh, Sue -- how exciting to be the tall one!

Go, Team Esperanza! Hope the preferred format is not too much of a PITA.

I was so excited to get the tax meeting over with! But apparently I went a little speedy and slopping adding up various items, so I have to re-do my homework tomorrow. (But at least I'm confident that the items are correct. Calculators are not my best friend.)

AW: so, the day seemed to go really nicely, with E quietly keeping herself busy all day...
W: and right after she fell asleep, we discovered that she'd coloured all over the entire seat cushion of my new armchair, with crayon. The whole dang thing was purple.
AW: I'm so glad we paid the $150 to get the stain coating for the new chairs. It took a half an hour of scrubbing to get all the crayon off, but I think it's all gone now. (And Mr. Q did the majority of the scrubbing, for which I'm also thankful.)

Kathy a: that is incredibly frustrating that you didn't find out that SIL went to the hospital. I really hope she recovers quickly.

I'm very much smiling about Sue helping to reach something from a high shelf.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I wish none of you green beer, unless that is truly your heart's desire.

Apparently my beloved really wants corned beef, which he mentioned during his DAY OFF yesterday (that he didn't tell me about in advance). And lo, the supermarket has been sold out for days, and I do not have the time that he had (YESTERDAY) to go cruising around, so he is getting a pot roast with as close as I can get on seasoning and accompaniments.

Also I forgot to wear green, but for some reason, nobody is willing to risk pinching me. ;p)

W: in lieu of napping, my toddler painted the walls with the contents of her diaper. Send reinforcements.

kathy a. said...

My, but E seems to be very artistic!

Is some part-time day care a possibility? There could be benefits all around -- a place to run off steam and see new things, positive peer pressure, mama gets a break. xoxo

Cost and availability rule out any daycare, unless I find a job to pay for it (and the jobs for people with research experience are really rare around here, right now). But, Upstairs Neighbour came down for tea, and that helped to provide a distraction for both of us. It'll help that we'll have the car for the rest of the week (Mr. Q needed it for Monday and Tuesday), and so now we can get out to see friends, and go to library time.

(The good thing is that E can now discuss things. I asked her what happened, and she said she got pook on her hand, and tried to clean it off. She tried the wall, because we can clean the wall easily, but that didn’t help much, and so she used the fitted sheet and her feet. I asked her, in the future: a.) to call me if she pooks, b.) to keep her hand out of her diaper, and c.) if she DOES get pook on herself, not to move, and to call me for help. We'll see if she remembers.)

Lil E is quite the creative and articulate toddler, isn't she? Sigh.

W: So tired. Baboos up at 5 AM for some unknown reason. Stoopid Daylight Saving Time

W: Mr E thinks he is the only person who has ever been tired before, and it must be remedied immediately. Similar to: Man Cold

W:Very tired.
Daughter sick.
AW: have a day at home to get some grading done?

--Neighbor Lady

Sue said...

Wow - Lil E is letting those creative juices flow! Also, ew. Sounds like a trip to the library would be good for both of you.

esperanza, sorry about the early risers in your household and the Man Tired...

...which is VERY different from the variety of tired being felt by NL. Sending hugs and hoping a day at home helped.

W: Sleep continues to elude me. It doesn't help that as I lie awake I think about what's going to happen if my son doesn't find work in the big city SOON. He's got savings, but you can burn through that quickly in the city. Ack.

kathy a. said...

So sorry about the tiredness and/or sleeplessness going around.

NL, hope neighbor girl is feeling better. And that today lets you catch up, AND have some free time.

Fingers crossed for your son, Sue.

Happy birthday to our own fabulous LIZ!

Happy Birthday, Liz!!!

Daughter's fever higher today. Boo.
But seems to be a bad cold that is progressing (yesterday sore throat, today totally stuffed).

Lots of tea here....

Happy birthday, Liz!

Poor Neighbour Girl! I hope she's better soon, and that you stay well. (And I hope you have time to get caught up on marking today.)

AW: I have a new friend, and we're going to a consignment sale on Saturday!

esperanza said...

Wow, QWP, a consignment-saling friend is a good friend, I can tell already. I'm selling (hopefully) a bunch of stuff at a consignment sale this weekend but won't be able to go shop. :(

Major whine: messed up sleep cycles of Baboos. Sweet spend 30 minutes screaming her reading homework at me (I mean, she read her book in a scream). Mini didn't fall asleep until 10:30 last night and got in trouble for sassing at school twice this week. (Example: Teacher: Mini, do you need help opening your milk? Mini: does it look like I need help?)

AW: I'm going out of town to lead a workshop at a women's retreat this weekend. I'm not all that excited about the retreat itself, but it's at one of my favorite places, and it is not here.

kathy a. said...

Oooh, outing to a consignment sale! And good luck with your sales, Esperanza.

Yeah, sometimes being "not here" is its own reward. ;)

Sue said...

Oh NL, I hope your daughter feels better really soon. Lots of tea indeed.

I hope you have a great retreat weekend esperanza!!

Happy Birthday Liz!!!

It's also my Dad's birthday. I just spoke with him on the phone. He sounds good and is looking forward to seeing everyone in May at my niece's wedding.

Happy Birthday, Liz! You're another year more kick-ass!

Still sick here. So sick. Haven't felt this miserable in a long time. Have to go back to work tomorrow -- no more sick time. Why can't Spring Break hurry up already?!

A/W-- Offspring's Spring Break starts this Friday! Glad to have her heading home.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, everyone!

Esperanza, sometimes "not here" is exactly what you need.

Klee, I wish I had magic fairy dust to make you allbetter, or to give you enough sick leave for you to get better on your own.

Happy birthday, sue's dad!

(((KLee))) I hope you feel better soon. It's been a rough winter for you. Glad Offspring is coming home for a visit soon!

kathy a. said...

Belated happy birthday to Sue's dad!

KLee, hope you are feeling better, and that you have a nice visit with Offspring!

Ack, I'm being trampled by allergies. Using the inhaler and an anti-allergy nasal spray. Bleck.

Sue said...

Oh ick. I've been hit with some kind of plague. Fever, chills, total body aches and unfortunate tummy consequences. So far just a sore throat but no congestion.

Bleh. I'm off to bed.

kathy a. said...

((( Sue ))) BEGONE, ye plague!

I can't even believe this. My SIL has a *new* fracture, just below the one that was surgically repaired, and that was only figured out today -- despite the ER trip on the weekend. On the AW side, it is not displaced, they're making a brace, and she is comfortable and everything. Cooperative, even.

4th fracture in just over 2 years. Nope, it is not just a hairline fracture -- full break, right below the plate they put in a few weeks ago.

Liz Miller said...

(((Sue))) Plague is not allowed to plague you!

I'm so sorry, Kathy, about your SIL's injuries!

AW: Tonight was Hanukkah in March. We had friends over and I fed them latkes and one of them made me a cake and the others brought me eggs from their hens.

It was lovely.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Liz, that sounds lovely.

Kathy, that's awful! Your poor SIL.

Sending Plague-Be-Gone pixie dust to Sue.

W: you guys, I'm exhausted. Monday was Day of the Crayons. Tuesday was Day of the Poop. Wednesday seemed to be uneventful, but then E had an awful night, screaming because of painful gas. I slept SO little that night that I was a zombie all day yesterday (I cancelled any plans for driving that day, because I was tired enough to feel impaired), and then E didn't nap that day! So now it's Friday, and my house looks like a war zone, and we're going to attempt to go and play with friends this morning. We'll see how the day goes.

kathy a. said...

Num, Liz!

((( QWP ))) May the weekend give you a chance to recover!

Neighbor Girl's diagnosis: flu.
Sigh.
At least she is improving, and now we just cross our fingers for the rest of the household...
And, Sue, I hope you feel better very very soon!!!
((QWP)) wishing you a long peaceful night of sleep tonight.
((kathya))) that's so horrible about the second break! Yikes!
Hope everyone has a lovely equinox.
:) Neighbor Lady

Poor Neighbour Girl! Flu is so rough. I hope she heals quickly.

AW: even though we've hardly done anything all week, I cancelled our morning plans, because E was way too exhausted to go out. I'm glad I did that (and it looks like I successfully got her to nap today), because I have no idea how to get her through tomorrow. (We have a little too much planned for tomorrow, and I keep finding out that it is going to be busier than I expected.)

kathy a. said...

NL, hope NG is feeling better!

Whatever that thing going around is, it attacked me this morning. Bleah.

kathy a. said...

There was a shooting near my town's high school, probably about a mile from our house. Kept the windows shut most of the day because I felt like pook, so I didn't hear all the helicopters or sirens. Uck.

KLee said...

So tired of my administrators. They make me feel like everything I do is wrong. It seems like they go out of their way to make me feel small and stupid. I wonder if I the only person they do this to, or is it everyone? Seems like I hear that more and more people will be leaving at the end of the year. I am more and more convinced that I will be one of them.

Sad. It makes me hate getting up to go to work every day.

kathy a. said...

((( KLee ))) That sounds awful. xoxo

No awards this week. Feel free to keep whining!

((kathya))) hope you feel better pronto!
