Is anyone getting April showers? We are having record-breaking type heat around here; it got close to 90 degrees in my un-air-conditioned house yesterday afternoon. I thought it was just me [as it so often is], until my Beloved started melting.
In anti-whines, we had a lovely date this weekend and laughed really a lot! We ate outdoors in a brick courtyard with the walls covered in trumpetvines, just as it was lo those many years ago when our first apartment was 2 blocks away. Isn't life grand?
On the whine side, another family dynamics dysfuntion extravaganza threw me into a funk. The disorienting effects of my new med, plus deadlines, did not help any. Bah.
Passing the chocolate, and some cooling lemonade! What's up with you?

April showers at my house. Which reminds me, I should go check on the basement and see if there's anything left that might get wet. (Last time I unpacked boxes of beer and seltzer so that I could get rid of the wet cardboard. Beverages were unharmed.)
Oy, wet basement. Yay, unharmed beverages!
omg. i'd like to thank my delinquent, trouble-causing hormones for the lovely baby MOUSTASHE that just appeared on my upper lip.
I'll join in a hormone related whining party! I am sooo tired. And sooo PMS-y. Is it the extra hormones? Or am I pregnant? These are the questions that pester me throughout the day and night. I will not know for sure until a week from Thursday. Sigh. This part, I do not enjoy.
And the mooooving. Wah. Sweet Baboo and I have packed five boxes and already the house is a disaster. Grandma and great-grandma are coming tomorrow (AW) and staying a week (likely will be a whine next week) to help pack and play with Sweet Baboo.
AW: the Sweet Baboo is awfully cute. She sounds like she is trying to speak German lately: "ach!"
I'm sure I'll be back later. And it April-showered a little bit (less than an inch). We could use much, much more. Back to the hot and dry.
Feeling sick to my stomach all of a sudden. Do NOT want to hurl. Blech...
Fingers crossed that KLee did not hurl last night.
oh, esperanza. hormones AND moving. crossing fingers all goes well.
klee, hope you are feeling better!
Hoping that Klee is feeling better.
April Showers have appeared here along with the April earsplitting thunderclaps and the April pea-soupy fog.
Now for the whine. I'll be getting my period tomorrow. Wanna know how I know? Well, let me tell you.
Can't seem to get my boobs to do
The drying up they are supposed to
Though the pump is gone
They still go on
Producing milk as though they need to
It's not enough to need a pad
But it stains my bras and makes me sad.
I can see it now
I am just a cow
Maybe I should be chewing cud
Three years post-pumping
Thought they'd forget
Four years post-pumping and they still haven't gotten dried up yet
Lactation
All I ever wanted
Lactation
But now it's gone too far
Lactation
I thought it would be gone.
Lactation
All I ever wanted
Lactation
But now it's gone too far
Lactation
I thought it would be gone.
Five years post-pumping
Thought they'd forget
Six years post-pumping and they still haven't gotten dried up yet
Lactation
All I ever wanted
Lactation
But now it's gone too far
Lactation
I thought it would be gone.

All I ever wanted

Stomping and hollering "Go Liz!"
and... liz takes an early lead for STYLE, BABY!
You know what's a really disconcerting way to wake up in the morning? Having the radio come on in the middle of an ad for that emergency response service for cars where someone talks to you while you yelp in shock and pain after a car accident. Thanks a lot, LiteFM.
Liz wins all prized hands down. What talent she has! What style! What a milky mess. Perhaps a new career as a wet nurse is in order?
It's school vacation week around here. Can you guess who is already grounded for the week? Come on...who is ALWAYS grounded every vacation? I'll give you a hint. Tall, loud, obnoxious, believes he's the boss of the house....
For lack of the effort required to get up from sofa, walk across the room and get the clicker I watched Dr Phil today. I know, I should be punished. But today his wife, Dr Robin was on and she was prescribing bioidenticals for hormonal problems. Yes, she was! Because nobody is more of an expert on menopause than Dr Robin, I guess. Anyhow, every symptom she described is something I'm experiencing. But I've been in full menopause for well over a year. Is this a mean joke? I'm shaking my fist at the sky, big fellow.
Worthless Pet has decided that peeing in the dining room is oh, so much more convenient than actually going outside in the cold, gray, rainy days. The stench is back!
My back is still killing me despite medications galore. I think I might have to actually get an x-ray or something because I'm guessing it's a disk problem. If it is, who would like to borrow a child (your pick) for the summer? Free to a good home.
Still dealing with crazies on the internet stalking me, so my new blog will be private for a while until they forget about me and move on. If you read my blog and want a link to the new one, there will be directions tomorrow am on how to get the secret password. Don't worry, I have an iris scanner and hand print reader. Not.
I did not pay my excise tax this year and got a big official letter saying I'm screwed. Oh well... I'll send them the money out of our gigantic $250 stimulus check.
TOTALLY creeped out over the Craigslist Killer story. But am quite amused by his financee who is in such a state of denial it's sort of funny. OY!
And that's a wrap!
the hormones just keep rolling in! and i'm rolling my eyes along with margalit about somebody on TV solving it all with bio-identicals -- just like estrogen, only it isn't tested for safety or effectiveness! and for some of us, it might have the little side-effect of *increasing* risk of heart disease, cancer, and/or stroke. woo.
passing along some lovely little virtual japanese fans and plenty of ice.
Head.ache. Ow.
And the Lord saith: "Let there be no hurling, for it is unclean! Let those of ye who hath hurled find solace! Be not afraid, and trust in the power of Ginger Ale." Here endeth the lesson. Go in peace, and serve the Lord.
I offer up praises to the Almighty Lord, who, in his wisdom, created both the saltine AND the Ginger Ale. Blessed be his holy name, Amen.
Amen, sister!
Well, well. KLee makes a bid for the style award...
Glad you're on the mend!
Whine: We returned from the MIL visit to find our peonies up and 6" tall so far. Until this morning, when I discovered they'd been grazed to the ground by the local deer herd. Fireplacing ruminant rats.
Whine: MIL stress makes my period come early (hoping its that and not signs of perimenopause, anyway). First day of the Redcoat Encampment on a 10-hour drive? Not fun, what with the cramps and the wondering if my redoubts and earthworks would keep the Redcoats from breaking through my defenses until the next rest area...
Sara: "I'll take Bodily Fluids for a thousand, Alex."
Any whine that combines the phrase "my period" and "rest area" gets my vote.
"Redcoat Encampment" and "wondering if my redoubts and earthworks would keep the Redcoats from breaking through my defenses" made me LOL.
Sara should get a pulitzer for her war front reporting.
many worthy whines this week! but let's not get stuck on awards just yet -- don't feel shy about whining for its own sake. xoxo
I'll have to catch up on the whines later pixies. I came home from Arizona with TONS of stuff to do, not the least of which was to whine.
Not about the heat, or the beautiful retreat center, or the great guest speaker (Dr. Wilda Gafney - any of you academic types know her? She was quite fun once she relaxed a bit.)
No - I'm whining because I had to come home to COLD weather. Blech to winter. Blech I say.
Why is it that my 59 year old mother and my 90 year old grandmother can pack ALL day long and still be perky tonight, and my 34 year old butt is exhausted?
experanza, i'd guess that is because they are packing your stuff with glee, while *you* are busy going insane, watching the sweet baboo, packing and supervising the packing, winding down whatever needs that at the soon-to-be-gone place, *and* hosting the festivities?
Missed last week because I was freaking out about packing and getting ready to fly with two small children to a highly emotional memorial service and reunion. The long and short of it is this: while I will always hate flying, the children did absolutely fine. We had as a good a time as possible, given the situation.
The only bummer turned out not to be too much of a bummer - I did not see a person I really hoped to see, but he found me nonetheless. I thought he still lived in the area, but he moved years ago. He knew, though, that I'd be there, so he sent someone to find me at the reunion and give me updated information. I'm so glad to have him again. He's like a brother to me.
Now, though, I'm swamped under too much grading and returned-from-a-trip laundry. I am tired, and my baby has decided to teethe this week. {sigh.} Also? Virginia was beautiful this past weekend, and Michigan has been crap weather since we got back. I am looking forward to May.
It's been a week.
AW: I am finally getting employment paperwork (for the job offered almost a month ago). This is EXCELLENT.
W: But my sublease for the summer fell through... This means I may end up staying with my boyfriend's parents after all.
AW: I submitted an article off my dissertation to a journal.
W: My advisor wants two more in the next three weeks. Um.... Ow.
AW: Much less nausea and intestinal rumbling this week.
W: This seems to result from giving up dairy foods. And since it worked, I may never eat cheesecake, milk chocolate, or Greek yogurt again.
AW: Any Pixies in Alaska? I'll be getting there soon!
W: It's a big damn country, and my boyfriend and I will be living 4000 miles apart starting at the end of May. I am rationally okay with this and emotionally devastated, all at the same time.
I still can't get my head wrapped around that concept:
Four. THOUSAND. Miles. And you haven't even left the country.
redzils, one possible suggestion on the dairy front - have you tried lactose-free versions, to see if it's possibly lactose sensitivity rather than a dairy allergy/sensitivity? Lactaid milk is excellent, and they make Lactaid pills that you can take with dairy food.
Much sympathy on the emotional devastation of moving far far away from the one you want to be with - I have been there and it sucks.
Sympathy for those with difficult hormones, rebellious stomachs, and travel exhaustion of various kinds. (Esperanza, what kathy a. said, plus I'm guessing that since they're not the parents of a baby, they're getting more sleep than you on a regular basis).
Thanks to all of you hilarious stylists (Redcoats trying to breakthrough the earthworks! Songs of woe about Lactation! [does that go to a tune I didn't recognize?] Hurling that beith unclean!). I appreciated the laughs.
Oh noes!
My mom just joined Facebook.
P.S. A couple of months ago, someone here mentioned that she got bit in the butt by some alleged, unspoken FB etiquette that status messages are not for whining. Since then, I've been paying attention to my FB network's messages, and I think the whiner in question was completely justified. People (the ones I know, at least) use their status messages to whine all the time. So, a belated "sorry!" to the whiner who whined and was whined at.
Liz for style *holding up bic lighter and waving it back and forth*
Hugs for all the pixies - rough week around here. Body fluids, 4000 fireplacing miles (holy moly), non-sleepy babies. This week seems to have it all.
KLee - preach it sistah!
Whine: I'm still on Arizona time, can't get to sleep at night and my secretary called me this morning LONG before I would have been ready to wake up. I should probably thank her for helping to reset my body clock - except that I'm still on study leave until the fireplacing 29th of April!!!
Blargh.
I think it's come to the point that when I'm off I need to find a cave to live in. Do you know of any vacancies?
