Awards!

Congratulations and condolences to Pixies on the outcomes of the various electoral races close to your hearts. Thanks to all who joined in the special edition whining!

Special kudos to Liz, who was an election volunteer dynamo! Liz also wins the Style Award for her election tribute to Tom Leherer, "Anxiously."

On to the free-range whines. Our grand national experiment showed definitively that a nail-biting election does not reduce the general stress levels in participating households.

Hugs, love, and much Pixie sympathy to Margalit, whose teen daughter is having big fat problems, and PK, who is struggling with an "interesting" and previously undiagnosed condition.

Elevated Risk of Mullet Awards (Cat Division) to Sue ["My guess is there would be blood, and it wouldn't be the cat's."] and Liz ["The cat will say, as my sister used to, ‘Someone's going to end up crying...and it's not going to be me.’"] for their profound wisdom on the subject of cat care.

Elevated Risk of Mullet (Bug Division) to Redzils, for describing her new BUGZOOKA. But the joy is bittersweet, because Redzils also wins the Please Puppy, Get Well Award, having landed back in the hospital.

Old Skool / Hi Tech Award to JenR, for a spectacular feat of data deletion. Yeeps. Glad it is recoverable.

Old Skool / Baboo Award to Esperanza, who was chocolate-deprived for days until scientific experimentation disclosed that Baboo’s sleep problems were unrelated to the chocolate that Mama so desperately needs.

Boundaries Award to Sue, along with the services of the Cluestick Posse, for folks [a] not understanding why 60 hours of work can’t get done in 20, and [b] checking her personal blog for appropriate levels of cheerfulness at all times.

Moral Dilemma Award to Madeleine, who got popped for a moving violation and has the misfortune of being guilty as sin, along with half the other drivers at that intersection.

"Drat you, stoopid time change" Award to all affected Pixies, and extra rations of caffeine for those in need.

Thanks for playing! See you next week, when Redzils is our gracious host.

Thanks, kathy! Moral relativism beckons right when it counts. Sigh.

esperanza, my deepest, deepest apologies for setting you off on the choco-deprivation experiment. I'm so sorry. But I'm glad you are back on the good stuff. Finish learning to crawl, Baboo! Mama needs some sleep.

Thank you for my award and for all your patience with my election angst through the last few months.

Lovely awards ceremony, Kathy A.

And big hugs to all the Pixies.

And a silly question: Does anyone know what, if anything, it means when a person becomes so pale that even their lips are colorless? It's very odd-looking, that creature in the mirror.

PK, anemia maybe? Is it a sudden change, and are you feeling worse than usual in other ways?

kathy a. said...

anemia. or maybe low blood pressure? call your doc. xoxo

Madeleine, no worries. It was good for me, I'm sure. For the people around me, including the ever-patient pixies? probably not so good for them.

PK--when the Sweet Baboo did that, it was because the oxygen level in her blood was too low...so anemia sounds possible. Get thee to (yet another) doctor.

PK, I'm worried that your doctors are missing something. As they said, it sounds like you are severely anaemic.

Have they checked for (may God forbid) lupus or leukemia? Lupus has more of your set of symptoms than leukemia according to WebMD.

Hi, Pixies. I am less pale now that I've been up and aroudn for a while today. Still very tired and weak. I slept from 6PM to almost 9AM last night, so hopefully that will help. DH is going to come home early to get the kids ready for AWANA tonight, and I'll probably go to bed again as soon as he gets home. Meanwhile, videos! and books! and puzzles! and other quiet activities for the kids are the order of the day.

I have been checked for lupus several times, and other autoimmune things. I don't know about leukemia. Wouldn't something like that show up in white/red blood cell counts? They've always been normal so far. And my ANA isn't elevated, which means no major autoimmune things.

The pharmacist did call and say that they forgot to do the CBC when they ran my blood tests last week, so I need to go in and give more blood. I'm going to have to wait until DH can take me, because driving while tired, dizzy and weak==very bad idea.

I do need to find a doctor to check out some suspicious lumpiness in the nether regions, but I think it's just some wierd side effect of IBS.

purple_kangaroo said...

Never mind about the lumpiness. I checked, and it's gone now. Must have just been a side effect of things being slow down there the last couple of days.

Great awards kathy a.

PK - how could they forget the CBC??? That's usually the first thing on the lab requisition. Duh.

Hope you're feeling much better really soon.

purple_kangaroo said...

Well, they ordered the test and drew the blood for it, but they forgot to send it in to the lab--or something like that.
