Foggy-Headed Whining

I went for 90 days migraine-free (exact number thanks to my migraine tracker app), but then the triple-whammy of minor back injury, hormones, and cold symptoms were too much for my body to handle, and I was out of commission for a few days. I'm starting to come back out of the fog (and managed to use my SAD lamp this morning without triggering another migraine), but I still feel a bit like a limp dishrag. Seriously: whoever asked Sue if she ever tried to manage migraines with mindfulness can go and sit on a tack.

But! Mr. Q managed to repair our crumbled front steps this weekend, and E is back at preschool this morning, and there are garden tomatoes dehydrating in the oven. And I'm coming out of the fog again. Here hoping for another 90-day break from the pain.

A 90-day reprieve is wonderful, but I'm sorry about the one that broke the trend. :( I've struggled with the SAD lamp, so I'm super glad you managed to use it without incident.

AW: We're heading to the hospital shortly with our list of questions ready for the social services staff. Hubby is an only child, so it's just us sorting it all out. We'll get it done, but boy, it's going to be an interesting couple of months...

AW: Our son from the Big City, and his partner, arrive on Saturday to celebrate Thanksgiving with us.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh boy: dealing with all of this right as Thanksgiving approaches! I hope that the social services staff is helpful, and that your MIL is receptive to her husband getting the help he needs. I'm glad that you'll have your son and his partner there soon.

Oh right! I need to be getting Thanksgiving preparations in order. I need to figure out the best day to roast and puree the pumpkins, and then make pie on Friday, and pick up the turkey on Friday, and brine it, and...

AW: there's a lovely shop near our house, with whom I was able to place an order for a fresh turkey straight from a farm. (I think it's also free range?) And so I don't have to spend my week defrosting a bird in my fridge. (Although -- and this is a reference only Sue will understand -- I've listened to all the variations of Dave Cooks the Turkey too many times, that I feel like these good intentions will fail, and I'll spend Friday night, with a frozen utility turkey from a convenience store, hair dryer in one hand and flask in the other.)

Sue said...

QWP - thanks!! That made me laugh out loud!! In other news, we had not even thought about, you know, Thanksgiving DINNER. I'll be joining you Friday with the hairdryer and flask.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Well, the good news is that it's only Monday today! If you get a medium-sized frozen turkey today, you should have it defrosted by Friday.

I love how we're maintaining a higher-than-average CanCon percentage at WW so far, what with the Canadian Thanksgiving and Stuart Mclean discussions. Sorry, American pixies!

esperanza said...

Y'all with your SAD lamps and early turkeys! :) We love you.

AW: Mini recovered quickly and the birthday festivities went on as planned. We postponed the horse riding until this Friday, but there were presents and pizza and cake, and all was well. So much easier than a "regular" birthday party.

W: But I did not sleep last night. Why? I have no idea.

AW: Two hour nap this morning after my parents left.

W: Where did my day go? Oh, right.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I'm glad that Mini recovered so quickly, esperanza! I'm so sorry about the sleepless night. I've been there too many times.

Liz Miller said...

Happy Thanksgiving week, Canadian pixies!

I'm so sorry about the migraine, QWP.

Sue, I'm sending supportive thoughts.

Esperanza, so sorry about the lack of sleep but very glad Mini recovered quickly.

W: The volunteer cantaloupes were tasteless and mealy. Back into the compost they went.

AW: Working on getting (and maybe keeping?) the house clean and uncluttered. It feels really good.

kathy a. said...

QWP, glad you are feeling better! Definitely mullet-worthy about the hair dryer and flask!

Sue, sending much love to you and yours as things get sorted with the parents-in-law. I am SO glad that social services is involved (and at the hospital, too). xoxo

Yay about Mini's recovery, and the birthday party!

Liz, best with the cleaning intentions. I keep intending, and then SHINY! SOMETHING ELSE TO LOOK AT!

AW: Still enjoying the work lull. W: but as noted, not much is getting done. I totally forgot about one project I offered to do a month ago. Guess I should get planning for a couple of household spiff-ups that we meant to do before last Christmas, and it will just be sad if we don't get them done this year, too.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Sue: I hope that the meeting with the hospital's social workers was helpful, and that you guys have a plan for care for your FIL. Hugs.

Well done on doing cleaning and decluttering, Liz!

W: I had a run-in with a blowhard on Book of Faces, and I'm still agitated.

kathy a. said...

There, there, QWP. One need not engage with blowhards. xoxo

W: The Big National Thing is still more than a month off, and my head might pop, possibly today. This is the most hideous sitcom ever, and it's on every channel, endless loops and sidestories. And it, like, matters. A lot.

esperanza said...

I'm with you on the election, kathy a. I am so ready to early-vote, as if me early voting will make it all be over. On the other hand, I am so unprepared to early vote in anything but the big election at the top of the ballot. New locality means new local elections to figure out.

kathy a. said...

I know! My own ballot will be stuffed, and I don't even have the pamphlet yet.

W: Biggest parenting mistake of my post-kid years. I accidentally loaded the dog's dish with cat kibble on top of the wet food, which will only reinforce her bad habit of scarfing cat food as often as possible. In my defense, someone else put the dog kibble in an identical bin right next to the cat kibble, while forever and a day we have stored the sordid dog food elsewhere. And I was distracted by a fake story about the Nobel Peace Prize.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

We're right there, watching in terror too, kathy! (I didn't intend to engage the blowhard! I'd said something when things were calmer, and then the blowhard stepped in and blowharded over everything in a particularly condescending way, and then my cousin thought he needed to step in and defend me, and called Blowhard a "pompous ass," and then Blowhard brought up cousin's dead mom! And so the only thing I actually said to Blowhard was "I'm out, now that dead moms are being brought up." And I've been mad all day! All of my cousins have thanked me for calling that out as inappropriate, however. They all found it really upsetting. So I feel vindicated in speaking up there.)

kathy a. said...

Well, the Posse is on the ride for jackasses who insult cousins and dead moms. xoxo

kathy a. said...

Also nominating "blowharded" as verb of the week.

Anonymous said...

Yes, go posse! No fair insulting cousins and moms.

Our rabbi gave a great sermon today, but some people who seem to be in line with He Who Shall Not Be Named didn't like all the talk of, you know, tolerance, and decency. So they are being nasty on the book of f@ces also.
So, I just wrote an email to our rabbi saying thank you for having the courage to stand up and say things about tolerance. What a world.

Sigh.

Happy New Year to all celebrating!!

esperanza said...

Happy New Year, NL! And I like your rabbi.

kathy a. said...

Kudos to a warm and truthful rabbi. Best for the new year to all.

Happy New Year those pixies who are celebrating. And I'm glad that your rabbi spoke up for tolerance, NL, and that you spoke up to thank him.

Liz Miller said...

I keep meaning to go vote early, but Then someone says something stupid and I lose an hour on Facebook

esperanza said...

I just looked it up. Can't early vote until October 24. Sigh.

Miranda said...

Thinking of you Sue. <3

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Week! October is so much better than November for a harvest celebration, in my opinion.

Pixies, I'm doing a thing that I believe in but it's a very contentious thing and I pray i can find a way to overcome some entrenched thinking so we can collectively move past the fear and inertia.

kathy a. said...

Sending strength and peace and love, Miranda.

I forgot -- Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian contingent! Don't let the turkeys get you down!

Esperanza -- we don't have early voting as such, but I want my ballot stuff so I can get my vote by mail ballot. Sooner it's over for me, the better. (Although I miss the sticker they give out at the polling place.)

esperanza said...

We have to meet certain criteria for mail-in ballots (which I don't meet), but nothing special for early voting. Such a system!

Miranda, strength and courage for the thing.

kathy a. said...

I checked, and I'm on my county's list of "permanent" mail-in voters! (All the counties in my state have different rules about this kind of thing...)

I might have gotten a little strident with an old friend, about the relative badness of two public insults (my position being BAD, ALL very BAD). Netflix isn't even working very well as an intervention.

Anonymous said...

Miranda, may the thing you believe in go smoothly. If you believe in it, I know it's a good and worthy thing! May others come to see that too.

One other nugget from a different rabbi, quoting someone (not sure who). That we don't protest and picket and shout about injustice in order to change people whose views are entrenched. We picket and protest and shout about injustice so that they don't change us.
I liked that.
Though I also hope that sometimes, through discussion that gets started, some change can also happen.

W? Have discovered a new Netfl1x show I am now into with my 15 year old (not sure it's always appropriate but boy are there lots of discussion points): The F0st3rs. LOVE it. But, it is very distracting, and I have oh so very very much grading to do.

esperanza said...

ooooh, NL, I like that thought about protesting and pickets. I may borrow that one some time.

Sue said...

Sorry about all the blowhardy jackasses out there, especially ones who insult family. The posse rides...

Happy New Year NL and all who celebrate! I'm SO delighted that your rabbi spoke up about tolerance. And I love that quote!

Sending prayers for strength and whatever fortitude you need, Miranda!!

AW: A turkey will be procured today as long as all remains quiet on the work front.

Bonus AW: We already have the cranberries at home, so we will not experience the annual "Did anyone remember the cranberries?" conversation while the turkey is being carved.

AW/W: Yesterday went as well as can be expected. There are plenty of resources available, FIL is totally on board to access whatever services will improve their quality of life and extend the amount of time they can stay together...but we all know how this will go with MIL. That meeting is happening later this week at their home. None of us are delighted at the thought.

AW: FIL is back at home! Cardiology report indicates damage to the heart years ago that is coming back to haunt him.

kathy a. said...

Here's to FIL's improvement, and for MIL to have some moments of grace that allow her to consider what's best.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I'm so glad that FIL is well enough to be home. I'll be sending positive thoughts for the meeting happening later this week, that MIL will be able to see the help that FIL needs.

Hooray for having the cranberries already! I have acquired fresh cranberries, and I'm tempted to prepare them tomorrow, and then put them into a jar and save them for Saturday.

W: I didn't fall asleep until nearly 4am last night. I'm a zombie.

Sue said...

Ugh for the zombification, QWP. Is a nap possible today? I've been having fewer sleepless nights despite the constant monkey-brain stream of consciousness going on in my head. I swear by the "Sle@p With Me" podcast. Every night I think "This isn't going to work, I'm too ______(awake, anxious, whatever)" and then I wake up an hour later and turn off the podcast.

AW: Massage on my lunch hour today. It was lovely and I smell faintly of lavender.

esperanza said...

AW: chunky meeting today that was actually enjoyable.

kathy a. said...

Good for enjoyable chunky meetings!

Oh, Sue. A massaaaaaaggge.... That sounds very healing.

W: Hey, I'm Kathy, and I cannot turn off the internet. Not the parts we all know are junky -- good on that! I have to watch the debate tonight, even though it's veep nominees. Nobody else in the house, not even the cats, will be into watching, so my plan is to just have all the food ready that everybody will want. (Or I could just tell them to get their own kibble and/or call out for pizza, but that would lead to really bad local ratings.) (cf, Calvin and Hobbes on parental ratings.)

Sue said...

Yay for enjoyable chunky meetings!!!

Well, the afternoon took a turn when MIL refused the assessment visit. FIL caved and postponed it. *sigh* One step forward, two steps back.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh no, Sue. That's really concerning.

Liz Miller said...

I love my senator. LOVE HIM. Adore.

kathy a. said...

((( Sue ))) Maybe a new plan, another day soon?

Very fond of your senator, too, Liz.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I followed the debate via Twitter, because I'm trying not to get myself agitated right before bed. I really hope that the viewers saw through the other guy's constant lying.

Send some pixie magic my way, so that I get some actual sleep tonight. Tomorrow, E gets to be the classroom helper in preschool for the first time, which means she also gets to bring a show and tell item! She's taking her beloved stuffed kitty (named Gnocchi, because of a similar-looking cat on Curious George), and she was so excited about it at bedtime that I'm surprised she went to sleep.

kathy a. said...

Yay for the classroom helper! And show and tell! And a sweet bedtime!

Watched (or heard, because I was chattering with friends) the debate. Just v. impressed with one of the candidates. Not so much with the other's failure to answer questions, sticking with falsehoods, wanting to impose his own religious beliefs on everybody. But now I have kind of a headache; need to turn off the screen and go snuggle in with a silly book.

Sue said...

QWP - I hope you got some good, restful sleep. Yay for being classroom helper and show and tell!! Go E!!

I watched the debate and adored one candidate for not letting the lies slip by without notice. The other guy was so typical - lying, gaslighting, ("He didn't say that!" Ya, he did, and we all saw and heard it) and imposing his religious crazitude on everyone. Ugh. Just ugh.

Liz Miller said...

Yes. Did y'all see the ad that one team put up everywhere this morning calling out the lying liar for lying? It's almost as if they predicted what would happen and pre-made part of the ad! (I'm guessing that's totally what they did)

Sue said...

I'll take a look for the ad. Did you see last night where the Lying Liars Team mistakenly released their post-debate "We Won!" article before the debate even started? Good grief...

kathy a. said...

Yep, publishing a "victory" before the event even happens is pretty classy! One month and one day left.

Sue, hope that you and your beloved are able to make progress on getting that assessment. So hard! And hoping FIL is doing better. xoxo

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Liz, it couldn't have been surprising that the lying liar would lie! I imagine that it would have been pretty simple to pre-make parts of that ad.

Whiiiiiiiine: we are in the midst of a fireplacing snowstorm. October 5th. Snowstorm. I know I'm a Canadian and all, and in this province we've experienced snow in every month of the year at least once, but this just feels wrong.

Also whine: my bunk shoulder/neck are acting up again, and I'm typing this from bed, with an ice pack on my neck, having just taken painkillers. I have no choice but to be functional soon, because Mr. Q's night class starts in an hour, and so I'm on bedtime duty.

Ugh, I just remembered that we have swimming lessons tomorrow. I specifically decided to do swimming lessons in the early autumn, so that we wouldn't have to deal with wet hair and the frozen outdoors.

(On the good news front, apparently E did a really good job doing her first show and tell, and did a whole little presentation to introduce everyone to her beloved stuffed kitty. She reports that she REALLY liked being the line leader today, and wishes to do so every day. I told her that this only happens on the day when she's designated helper, which happens once a month.)

esperanza said...

I'm loving that E is having a great time at preschool! Sorry about your neck and shoulder, though. I have nothing to say about your weather. It was 93F here today.

AW: We have conquered Sweet's well child checkup at the new pediatrician. Sweet and Mini received flu shots, which "didn't hurt a speck"

W: the 15 minutes of pre-shot crying and whining from Mini

kathy a. said...

Go, Baboos!!! So glad the new ped is working out, and that Mini's pre-meltdown turned out to be without merit. ;)

QWP -- Ick on the ouch! I'm pretty sure that even if snowflakes are falling, the swim lesson will not turn E into a popsicle. Extra towels; good to go. Besides, she just rocked at show and tell!!

W/AW: One month and one day.

Liz Miller said...

Snow?!? On October 5?!?!? That is utter bullshit. I'm taking a cluestick to Mother Nature.

So sorry about your shoulder. Can E handle continuing to be the helper through bedtime?

kathy a. said...

Oh, Liz is good.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I wish I'd read that before putting her to bed! That's brilliant. She actually cooperated with bedtime really well (and the ice pack and painkillers worked). I even managed to clip her nails, but promising to paint her nails -- with special nail polish for kids -- afterwards. We did a special girls' night, and even watched a little show while her nails dried.

Tomorrow promises to be a pretty cute day: the classroom helper gets to take home a special bag until the next class, which contains the class's stuffed animal (a frog named Froggy), a stack of books to read together (all frog themed), and a binder with journal pages. Tomorrow, we're supposed to bring Froggy along during our activities, and also do some special activity with Froggy. At the end of the day, E is supposed to tell me about what Froggy did, and I'm supposed to write down what she says in the journal, and then she draws a picture. So: Froggy is going to swimming lessons tomorrow! I explained to E that Froggy will be happiest in the locker at the pool, but then he can sit with us when we have our snack beside the pool afterwards, and he can come with us to the library, to pick out our new books and return the old ones. E agrees that this is a fun idea.

Sue said...

Yay Baboos!! So glad the new ped doc is working out.

QWP, snow is wrong this early. Just wrong. You wouldn't be sending it our way for the weekend, would you? There are times when it's okay not to share. ;)

AW: hubby had a good talk with his dad and while the assessment is still a no-go, FIL made an appointment to see a senior apartment at a nice center. So, baby steps.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

That's a really good baby step, Sue!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Also, I checked your weather forecast, and we aren't sending the snow your way! I suspect that we're sending it west.

kathy a. said...

Hooray for baby steps! Fingers crossed, Sue. xoxo

AW, I think -- I got love bites on my upper arm during a purr session from my cat who really is old and unwell. Taking that as a happy sign; this poor baby was too scared for love, most of her life. She has also been trying to snuggle near the dog on the bed, but she still scares the dog, who is at least 5 times her weight.

Sue said...

Yay for love bites, kathy!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I'm glad that your kitty is being so loving and snuggly, Kathy.

W: swimming lessons went poorly. In spite of leaving early, we were late (both because of weather/roads and because of E acting up in the change room), and then even though she did well with the instructor, E refused to leave the pool after the lesson was done (and this is the kind of lessons where the kids are with the teacher in the pool, while the parents are on the side, in regular clothes). I had to carry her out, and then she screamed and cried about having to shower off (but she knows that the only way she can go to a chlorinated pool is if she washes well immediately afterwards, because she's had bad eczema flareups from swimming pools). Everything went so badly that she's spending this week deciding if she can handle ALL of swimming lessons (ie also the getting out of the pool part, and the washing part, since she also screamed and fought last time). If she can't handle the washing part, then we'll do swimming lessons in the spring or summer instead, when she's a little older. So far, she thinks she can work to handle all of that next week, but if next week goes badly as well, I'm done for now. (We're coming up with strategies for practicing through the week, to make things easier.)

kathy a. said...

I know Miss Polly has been happy to live the housecat life, enjoying the amenities and very interested in what's going on. It's just that she retained that feral "scardy-cat" attitude toward human contact, until recently. Don't think I ever heard her purr until the last few months!

One more month.

kathy a. said...

QWP -- the fact E did well with the lesson, and didn't want to get out after, is probably a sign she LIKED it! If she is totally freaked about showering there, is it possible to do a washcloth rinse-off, then a nice bath with aveeno at home? Think you should give it another whirl, just in case.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

She definitely liked the actual swimming part, but she very much would not like the washcloth rinse-off (that was an option that she very loudly refused). We're definitely giving it another whirl, and talking about what she thinks she'll like/be able to handle. And the trouble is that there really is no way for her to stay in the pool afterwards, and I'm hesitant to let her stay in for longer than 30 minutes anyway, until we see how well her skin handles it over the next few weeks. It's really challenging finding a way for her to enjoy it and also not have it be a massive tantrum trigger that takes over the rest of the morning with awfulness. (She also screamed in the library afterwards, and we had to go straight home.)

Queen of West Procrastination said...

P.S. is post-swimming pool awful tantrums something that any of the rest of you have handled? Because my kid has had an awful screaming tantrum every time she's ever left a swimming pool, for her entire life. I'm so tired. I thought she was old enough that this wasn't going to be a thing.

kathy a. said...

I don't remember tantrums over this; do remember them over other things that -- just faded out, as the kids got more used to something. Because teh pool is currently a big deal, sounds good to go straight home after.

Since peers are sooo good at setting positive examples at this age, might not be bad to get friendly with some of the other kids. Then when friend A comes out of the pool all joyful, maybe she will, too!

Anonymous said...

Great idea Kathy!
Also, I remember always being absolutely starving after swimming. Maybe a special snack routine after swim lessons might help with the getting out and done?
--Neighbor Lady

Queen of West Procrastination said...

NL: I have to step up the before-swimming snack. We have a bunch of after-swimming snack routine, and I gave her something to eat in the car on the way there, but I think it wasn't filling enough. And Kathy's right about the example of the other kids: a big thing we've been discussing is how all the other kids give their instructor a high five, hop out of the pool, and go straight to their parents. She plans on copying their behaviour next week.

AW: the kid is napping! First time in months! She actually asked that I make her room dark for quiet time, and then she was out immediately. I shouldn't be surprised, after that mess of a morning.

Liz Miller said...

Muffin Man had tantrums around swimming a lot. Mostly hunger related, and over tired related.

More food before, then directly to a buffet place after, then directly home for a nap.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh boy, that nap ended badly. She pooped herself in her sleep, and then was really incoherent when she woke up, and the clean-up process was a nightmare. But thankfully today ISN'T one of Mr. Q's night class nights, and he's dealing with her until bedtime. (And she's cheered up now. Hopefully the nap doesn't break tonight's sleep.)

I'm glad (is that the right word? It doesn't seem quite right) to hear that E isn't the only one with swim tantrums. Next week, she'll eat a filling snack in the car on the way there, and instead of promising library first and then going out for lunch (which is tempting, because the pool and library share a building), we'll go straight from pool to lunch.

Liz Miller said...

You may want to have a tempting snack in your pool side bag for between lesson and shower.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

We had that today! E was consuming her snack while I was changing our clothes in the change room, but she was just too far gone today. Today, we also started practicing getting out of the bathtub without fighting it, as a way of practicing to get out of the swimming pool willingly. Mr. Q noticed the connection between those two issues this evening. We're now framing bath time as her time to practice for swimming lessons: some days, she'll practice getting out of the tub quickly, and some days, she'll practice being in the shower without screaming. (This kind of practicing helped in the spring, when she was having trouble knowing how to behave during music class. And that helped a lot: she's doing really well in preschool, which has a similar setup to music class.)

Queen of West Procrastination said...

AW: Mr. Q cleaned the kitchen, and I got to spend the whole evening with my feet up.

esperanza said...

Mr. E cleaned the kitchen last night, too! (He offered to read Sweet her bedtime story and sit with her while she fell asleep, but not being stupid, I requested that he clean the kitchen instead). She was uber tired and had been hard to handle at supper, but fell asleep almost instantaneously. I will neither confirm nor deny that I stayed in her room for {redacted} minutes to be sure he was finished with the kitchen before I re-appeared.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

esperanza: I'm cracking up about staying in the room for {redacted} minutes. I understand well.

Liz Miller said...

You deserved [redacted] quiet minutes.

kathy a. said...

Kitchen cleaning! Kudos, even a little redacted time was involved.

Weirdness: just picked up a call on my office line, and it was apparently my husband's half sister (by his dead dad, a part-sibling he never knew but found out about in the family bible).

I said I'd leave a message, and when she kept going for more info -- if I was Kathy [hislastname; which is his full sister's name], or if I was "the wife" -- I just said, "honey, I don't know you. I'll leave a message, OK?"

There were calls before. My beloved really does not want to meet a "new" sib now, and wonders about why she is trying to contact him at this late date. Got his hands full with the sister who has severe dementia. I maybe should have gone for "no idea who you are trying to reach," but that's not what came out. Sigh.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Not giving her any information seems to have been the wise course of action, Kathy.

Weird AW: I just realised the benefit of our cold, snowy weather. I can brine the turkey in a covered pot in the garage, instead of having to give up fridge space! This is usually only possible at Christmas, but the early snow means that the whole world is my refrigerator.

(That is a particularly Canadian anti-whine, isn't it?)

kathy a. said...

LOL! We've barely gotten any frost for several years, so -- go, Canada, for making Thanksgiving easier via snow!

I think I maybe gave away the store by saying I'd take a message. (Then again, my work phone was listed under my husband's name for a good while...) (Don't ask how hard it was to get him to change the listing.) (My work peeps got the number from other sources.)

Kinda regretted saying "honey" almost as soon as it popped out -- but I don't wish this woman ill. It's my husband's thing, and don't figure that being nasty would help at all.

Liz Miller said...

I think "honey" is fine. After all, you didn't say, "Bless your heart".

Liz Miller said...

Have been intrepid. Went into my son's closet and drawers and sundry corners and pulled out every. item. of clothing.

A) It's all clean (how's that for a miracle?)
B) Using my arms and legs for reference, I sorted it all into three piles:
a) Probably too big or it may fit fine
b) Probably too small or it may fit fine
c) Should have been given away long ago or he might want keepsakes
C) Clothes with holes have been put into the sewing room to be made into projects/thrown away later.

When he comes home in 90 minutes, he will have 10 minutes to prepare, and then we will have a festival of trying things on.

This all comes about because he said he had no shirts that fit, and he kept saying, "later, I'll do it later" when I asked him to do it yesterday. So if he throws a hissy about my ransacking his room, it's on him.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Well done, Liz!

kathy a. said...

Good work, Liz! Feeling for you, on the "later."

Liz Miller said...

No whining, no crying. He kept 4 keepsakes out of the too-small piles. And his drawers are still overflowing, so we don't need to buy him any clothes.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

AW/W: it looks like we're hosting TWO Thanksgiving dinners this weekend! My parents were supposed to host, but my father and sister (who lives with them) are both sick. It doesn't work to reschedule for next weekend (I'm out of town next weekend), and so we're going ahead with a smaller crowd here, and sending leftovers home with Mom (who has so far missed all the household sickness). The good news is that the turkey and pumpkin pie are already here, and I was already going to do most of the cooking. It's just that our house is a mess, and I wasn't planning on dealing with it until Sunday, in anticipation of hosting the dinner for Mr. Q's side of the family.

Big AW: how wonderful is it that we finally have a house, where we can host family? It's going to be tight (particularly on Monday, as we'll have to move around the living room furniture in order to have a big dining room table in here, whereas my family fits around our kitchen table). But I'm so thankful not to be in a basement suite anymore. (Or in the old apartment that didn't even have room for our kitchen table! Just a wee drop-leaf table, half-folded against the wall.)

In related news, we're getting takeout for supper tonight. Too much cooking this weekend, and an oven full of pies.

QWP -- Two dinners! OK then, you do have a plan! I think that since you are taking over the Saturday festivities, everybody has to agree to Not See any potential deficiencies in the housekeeping arena. And Mr. Q has to agree to clean up those invisibles before his family comes over. Voila!!

Oh, Liz -- good work sorting! And in 6 months, he can re-evaluate (and bag the extras for donation). :)

Please tell me there will not be any more political days as bad as this one.

Please tell me this political day is the end of the idea of an Oompa Loompa president

OK. We'll breathe, right?

I'm not sure I have cluesticks large enough, but will look around in the morning.

I'm in awe of her. She's bouncing back and feeling more alert.

kathy, I think you were fine to take a message.

Liz! Well done on sorting the clothing!

((Miranda)) ((daughter))) You folks have had way too much to deal with recently. The universe is invited to leave you to settle for a long while.

QWP - Two dinners!! It's so wonderful that you have the house for hosting!

Politically, I can't even. I hope this is the end of the road for Oompa Loompa.

AW: Big City Son and Partner arrive this afternoon. Yay!

Funny: I just suggested we order a special local pizza for dinner so we can send the leftovers with the boys to have at their friend's house (where they're staying). Hubby looked at me and said, "Would you please get out of my brain? I already thought of that."

(((((Miranda and daughter)))))) What Sue said.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with Son and Partner, Sue! And you and Hubby had a great idea!

Busy day ahead! Time to start roasting the sweet potato, and as soon as it's done, it's time to get the turkey in the oven.

Happy, happy Thanksgiving, Canadian pixies!

W of incoherence re: political situation

AW: Saturday with nothing really on the schedule (except, oh crap, gotta write a sermon) led to all four of us piled onto Sweet's bed (a twin size), tickling and giggling and pretend snoring. Then she read us a story. Good times. *This* is why we try so hard not to overprogram our children.

AW: headed to the pumpkin patch in a little while.

AW: horse riding yesterday was great fun.

Miranda, so glad she is doing so well!

Sue -- excellent mind meld.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Esperanza, the giggles!

W: just as I had to start getting the turkey ready to roast, migraine aura and confusion started. I somehow managed to prep it, and I'm laying down now, but oh boy. Not a good day for this, especially because I have a worse time with postdrome (migraine hangover) than I do with the actual migraine part.

esperanza said...

Oh no, QWP! I hope you can fend it off. This is two in a short time frame. :(

It is getting close to 90F again. I want to beam-me-up travel to QWP's place and work on turkey, with cold outside.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh, I wish you could have, Kathy! It was actually really nice having it be cool outside, since the oven was running all day. (We actually had to open all the windows, because the kitchen got so hot!) We just have little patches of snow left, but it was exactly refrigerator temperature this afternoon, and so we kept all the drinks outside on the deck.

Big AW: the migraine was never too bad, and Mr. Q and my mom were able to take over food prep. And then the Thanksgiving dinner made the migraine go away completely! I feel great now. (Note: the migraine started immediately after lunch, after I ate a cold, greasy leftover hamburger and fries from the restaurant we visited yesterday. And then the big Thanksgiving dinner cured the migraine. I think there's a direct connection between those things.)

kathy a. said...

Could be, QWP. Leftover fries are notoriously bad. So glad the dinner turned out well!

W/AW: Oh, the political season, will it never end? My new plan is to do a lot of cute animal posts on that place with visages. Even though that won't cure the other situation.
