Monday Monday

Hello there Pixies!

How's everyone doing on this Monday evening?

It was a loooong day at Chez Sue yesterday. Hubby has an infection which was not resolving, so off to the ER yesterday afternoon. We didn't have to wait terribly long to get in, but the docs were all very busy, so getting lab results etc took some time. We both had our e-readers with us, thank goodness.

Today was spent napping with intermittent periods of wakey time, mostly to play with bored kittens.

You?

Your poor husband, Sue! I hope that the infection is finally starting to clear.

Thank you for hosting! I just hauled out my laptop, to put up a post, hit "refresh," and there was your post!

kathy a. said...

((( Sue ))) Thanks for hosting.

And -- oh, how hard for your beloved, after a hard couple weeks for both of you! Kittens can be an important part of recovery (IMO), so I am glad they are bringing the love. xoxo

Probably nobody's on the edge of their seats about this, but -- my beloved took off yesterday, spent time in the office doing stuff and loading more in his car, and some hours later arrived at the place he was going.

Clyde did pretty well in the absence of The Man last night, but he really really really needed to go to day care today, was so excited he nearly pushed me right over. And after? This is one tired pup! We still have sunshine, but he's been busy napping on the dog couch.

Had another great breakfast out with a friend of longstanding, which was excellent; and got my errands done. Score!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

It sounds like you're keeping busy, and I'm glad that both you and Clyde had time with friends today! I'm so glad that doggy daycare works so well, with your husband having to be away for so long.

Old Skool: tomorrow, I have to get up earlier than usual, to book a spot for my extended family's camping trip this summer. You have to log in at 7am, and then you get a number in the queue (that only let a small number book at a time). I do not love doing this.
AW: at least I'm only booking my own spot. My cousin has to handle all the rest of the bookings (each person can only book four sites, and we need 5).

Sue said...

Yay for catching up with friends! I'm so delighted for Clyde's doggie daycare time - he clearly loves it.

Good luck this morning with booking the camping trip, QWP. Those queues are stressful.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

AW: I managed to snag a nice spot at the campground, and my cousin got two near us (but had to get two that were a little further away). I was randomly assigned spot #1029 in line, which is better than I had last year (only a 10-minute wait).

W: it's sure hard to think about summer, when there's a bunch of snow on the forecast for tomorrow!

Sue said...

Well done, QWP!! Yes, Spring hasn't exactly sprung here either. Still -10C or lower at night. We've got sunshine today, though, which is nice.

kathy a. said...

Yay for summer camping plans!

Looks like the rain is coming back in, the next couple days.... Clydie may need day care again tomorrow.

Haven't heard anything from the Elderly Neighbor family for weeks, since shortly after Mr. N was discharged from the hospital and they went to their daughter's house. Will check in with their daughter.

kathy a. said...

We got this great package in the mail from our daughter -- stuff she got on her spring break and thought we'd like. I knew about the lighthouse mug for Dad. But also! A fridge magnet in the shape of a road sign, saying "Sea Lion Xing." And the cutest little hermit crab, made of blown glass and poking out of an actual shell!

In middle school, our daughter wrote a poem called, "I am a hermit crab." One of my work friends adored it; so at stressful times, we'd recite, "I am a hermit crab! Hiding in my shell!" (Sorry, can't remember the rest, but it was an adorable and daring poem for her age then.)

AW: I feel like I gamed a system, but I really did nothing that wasn't above-board. I took a basket of outgrown/unloved Baboo clothes to a resale store. She paid me $22 for some of the clothes and shoes, but did not take about half of them. So then I took the leftovers to a different location of the same store, and got $8 more.

Sue, I hope your beloved feels better pronto. Kathy A, I hope your beloved's project goes smoothly. QWP, happy camping (and better you than me!).

AW/W: I'm attending a seminar/conference at my seminary alma mater on Friday. It's about infertility--how to think about it from a biblical and theological perspective, and how to minister to those in the midst of it. It's thinking/work I've long wanted to do, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to cry at some point during the day. It's from 9:00-4:30, downtown in Weird City. No way in the world am I battling the traffic--I'll ride my favorite bus.

kathy a. said...

Esperanza! You have your stories and thinking perspective and knowledge and survival to share. And, so what if you cry at some point? Go, mama. xoxoxo

kathy a. said...

* I meant, Rev. Mama. I mean, you bring so much to this.

kathy a. said...

* also, there should be a comma between the "thinking" and "perspective."

You know how you sometimes get excited, because someone is perfect to be in a certain place, about a certain thing? And you know that person is bringing all the love and the good?

esperanza said...

I'm not *leading* the thing, just attending!

kathy a. said...

Less stress! But, you truly do know stuff. xxo

Sue said...

kathy, I think my mantra for this week will be "I am a hermit crab, hiding in my shell." It's kind of perfect for introverts having an extrovert sort of week. :)

esperanza, well done on the clothes! I'll be thinking of you as you attend the workshop. It hits close to home for you, so tears may come, but I'm guessing you won't be the only one in attendance doing some remembering.

Hubby slept more last night, so that's a sign he's turned a corner. Thank goodness...he's had a rough time of it.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Hugs, Sue. I'm glad he got some sleep last night.

And hugs for esperanza. It sounds like it's going to be an emotional day. (And well done on reselling the clothes!)

AW: first day of swimming lessons! They aren't until after 11am, but E is so excited that she put on her bathing suit at 7:30. I think we'll go early, and do all the things we usually do after swimming (visit the library that shares a building with the pool, sit on the bench in front of the pool window, watching swimmers and eating snacks...), since afterwards, we're going to need to rush home for lunch.

W: I thought we'd manage to avoid the swimming/wet hair + snow combination, but this ridiculous spring had other plans (it hasn't snowed yet, but is supposed to start during swimming).

Queen of West Procrastination said...

W: E cried through a not-insignificant portion of swimming lessons, because it's been so long since her last lessons that she's now freaked out about putting her face in the water.

We're going to see if goggles help. Between the stressful drive (it was snowing so hard that there was almost no visibility) and the upset kid, I'm very tired.

esperanza said...

QWP, I resisted goggles for a looonnnggg time. I didn't want the Baboos to "have to have" one more thing before they would swim. But we were swimming in a neighbor's pool that had such high concentrations of chlorine, that it burned their eyes. And it hurt enough that they didn't want to go at all. So I broke down and got the goggles. To my surprise, we have never lost a pair (at least not permanently). They might do the trick.

Sorry you had a hard afternoon.

AW: Sweet has a friend over this afternoon. Sweetest girl ever.
W: Daisy the puppy is going bonkers at the extra energy and stranger and wow this is exciting.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

You know, I have a lot of trouble with sensitive eyes, and the tot pool where they have their lessons is really heavily chlorinated. I think I've resisted goggles because none of the other kids in her class use them, but they are obviously allowed.

esperanza said...

AW: Sweet had a friend over today to play and meet the puppy. She is the sweetest girl.

Further AW: Even so, the extraverting must have worn Sweet out. She fell asleep immediately tonight, just like the good ol days. Even Mini seems tired. Friend was only here for an hour and a half.

esperanza said...

ha! I am clearly tired, as I repeated my AW. She really is a sweet girl, in case you didn't catch it the first two times I said it. :)

Sue said...

QWP, sorry for your rough afternoon. Ugh - the snow is invited to leave the country any time now...

I agree with esperanza's assessment of the goggle situation.

Your guest sounds delightful, esperanza!

AW: Hubby feeling better every day, though not quite back to his old self yet. Lots of sleeping, but no fever for 24 hours.

kathy a. said...

No fever for the win! xoxo

Goggles helped my kids, when they were little. If it's just anxiety about water on the face -- that is really common! Teachers of young swimmers are patient, and they may have some tips and tricks.

Snow and swimming lessons! That's insane!

Looks like my beloved will be able to head home for the weekend. Yay!

Daughter's signing up for summer classes -- she's planning to take one she really needs, and another that is super useful. I'm guessing the summer classes have fewer students, another bonus.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Sue, I'm so glad that your husband has been fever free! I hope he continue to mend quickly.

Kathy, it's great that daughter is taking some summer classes. I always loved taking them (campuses are so lovely when the majority is gone between May and August, with the exception of the summer of 2009, when there was such high unemployment, that my campus was full of summer students who couldn't find summer jobs, and wanted to get through school more quickly).

Queen of West Procrastination said...

W: E had about an hour and a half less sleep last night than usual, which resulted in her sobbing the whole way home.

AW: she was asleep by 6:30! She willingly got into pyjamas at 5:45, and would have gone straight to bed then, if we didn't keep her awake for another 45 minutes. And so, while Mr. Q attends a school function, I'm spending the evening wrapped up in a cozy blanket, watching TV (I'm finally watching The Crown! It's very good!)

kathy a. said...

Every week, I'm so "I can't even..." about our fearless leader. Every.Week. And a lot of stuff is coming apart at the seams as far as that person is concerned, so he took Bold Action! And condemned our postal service, apparently because he's mad at Amazon? USPS is basically eveybody's favorite agency; and it is financially solvent; and affordable, and reliable; and everybody uses it.

Lotta what the fireplace, in this development.

Sue said...

QWP, I loved The Crown!

Yes, kathy, lots of what the fireplace going on. I just hope he doesn't go full-on "wag the dog" as he is increasingly cornered. He's trying to distract with his postal service threats, but hopefully it will be like so many other threats he's made - no one will actually implement them. It's Friday, so anything can happen - buckle up friends, and watch cat videos as needed.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

So, under the guise of helping the postal service, he's actively working to damage it? That is both unsurprising and incredibly angering.

AW: E slept 12 1/2 hours last night! AND, after trying get a bunch of methods, I finally cleaned the mysterious grease stains out of my spring jacket! (The forecast for next week involves slightly warmer weather, and I want to be ready for it!) After several different laundry attempts, it took smearing a LOT of D@wn dish detergent on the coat, letting it sit for several hours, rinsing, and THEN washing with my special coat detergent, to get it back to normal.

kathy a. said...

He ordered an investigation. And, he doesn't really care about the postal service; he is really trying to punish Amazon. And the reason he wants to punish Amazon is that its CEO also owns the Washington Post, which he really hates because they keep reporting truthful and shocking things about him.

So really, he's trying to attack the free press. He doesn't mind killing a few agencies in that pursuit.

kathy a. said...

AW's aplenty: Pork posole in the crock pot, awaiting the arrival sometime tonight of my beloved. In the meantime, the dog has another Exciting! Day! at Daycare! And, have been powering through my to-do list -- I'm not usually this efficient. Plus, our taxes are coming back from the tax guy, and will be filed in time, yay!

Also, sunshine! More rain this weekend, but not a lot.

I always wonder which of 45s attacks have to do with his finances, which he won't share.
Probably SO MUCH conflict of interest....

Also, just brought patio furniture up, since it is finally warm-ish..... and there are already mosquitos!!!!!

AW: April break for a week!

:) Neighbor Lady

esperanza said...

45 is a contagious mess. I may need some cat videos.

Yay for a break, NL! We already have mosquitoes, too. And worse, chiggers.

Giggling at QWP's "spring jacket," which I'm imagining is equivalent to my "winter coat."

AW: I went to the infertility and faith conference today. It was so good, and now my brain is exploding from so much good thinking. I want to read all the things and think all the things. There were pastors, chaplains, social workers, doulas, infertility nurses, counselors, rabbis, and probably some more I've forgotten. Such a wonderful mix of people. And perhaps the best thing, which surprised me, was a local musician who shared her story and songs she had written in the midst of it. She made everyone cry, first thing in the morning, so I wasn't alone :)

W: now I"m tired.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Esperanza, what a wonderful conference! I'm so glad that it went well.

(Funny story: what I'm calling my "spring jacket" was purchased to be my only "winter jacket," when I lived in the PNW. I frequently refer to it as my "[old city] winter jacket," but it's a sign that I've reacclimatized to this awful climate, that I'm calling it my "spring jacket." It was perfect for winter on the west coast: waterproof and lightly fleece-lined.)

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Well, dang it, now I'm staring out at the (melting!!) snow, and remembering how I lived for seven years in a place where it hardly ever snowed, and where we didn't bother to own winter boots or parkas. That first awful winter back, when E was a tiny baby, I would rock her, staring out at the snow, and whispering to her, "I did this so you could live near your grandmas and grandpas.")

esperanza said...

Ah, nope, then. It's heavier than my winter coat, which is only fleece.

W/AW: Gah. I remember that I really love being a student. There is another degree I could get, which I thought I was completely uninterested in. But then I learned all day today, and it was fun. But I really don't have the time and am more interested in other things. Also contributing: former professor said to me, "you were one of the best students that have come through this place." I blushed. I don't think it's true, but it was really nice of her to say.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh dear goodness, I just checked the news after being away from my phone for maybe an hour, and now the US is bombing Syria? This is unspeakably awful. (Didn't Sue just predict a "wag the dog" strategy?)

esperanza said...

I can't read any more news tonight. It's all awful.

kathy a. said...

A local journalist just posted only that: "wag the dog." Oh, and a suggestion of impeachment.

Personally, I feel very barky tonight, and the night's still young on the west coast.

Sue said...

Yep, he wagged the dog. It's unspeakably awful.

QWP, I'm glad you got the stain off your jacket! esperanza, this time of year I wear a fleece jacket *under* my spring/rain jacket because it's still below freezing in the morning, but warms up in the afternoon, so I can shed a layer. :)

Your conference sounds wonderful, esperanza. All those folks from different disciplines coming together and bringing their own personal and professional perspectives - wow.

Enjoy your break, NL!

Sue said...

kathy, I hope you're not so barky this morning!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Old Skool W: I managed to keep the newly-clean spring jacket clean for a few hours, and I needed to haul a bunch of garbage and recycling outside, and thought, "Hey! It's warm enough for me to wear my spring jacket!"

Guess what needs to be washed again?

kathy a. said...

I was kind of metaphorically barky...

For some months, I've kind of joked about these giant pieces of news on Fridays, during this administration. Yesterday seemed massively worse in scale.

The Man is home, so there will be a long and joyful dog walk today!

esperanza said...

W: So tired. I was exhausted (in a good way, as documented above) after my conference yesterday. Then Daisy the puppy woke up at 2:30ish, to go outside. She's pretty good about taking care of business quickly at night and returning to sleep. So that wasn't so bad. Then Sweet got up at 3:30 to go to the bathroom. I went to sit in her room to help her fall back asleep (this sometimes is successful). It didn't work. I ended up sleeping fitfully on her floor for a couple of hours, then moving to the couch when she gave up and got up for the day at 5:30. I really needed a good night's sleep. Yawn. Grump.

kathy a. said...

Esperanza, yeeks! That's a lotta waking in the night. xoxo

esperanza said...

*Someone* mysteriously flooded the bathroom while Mini was taking a "soak" (which means getting wet without getting clean, apparently). Flooded to the extent that the rugs were *dripping.* She does not understand why I am upset. This is a long day.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh my goodness, esperanza! What a day (and night)! That is a series of award-worthy whines there.

Anonymous said...

Oh no esperanza!
Hope the day improves, and/or bedtime happens soon!

w/aw: Neighbor Girl is in giant city to our south on a choir tour and was excited about it.

w: Neighbor Boy was playing goalie in soccer and injured his elbow, and is currently at the nearby ER with Neighbor Guy because I. am. not. good. with ERs or hospitals. And because he is kind, he took him instead of me.
Hope it's nothing serious.
They have arrived and checked in, but said the ER is busy.
ugh. and ick.

Trying to think thoughts that don't involve germs (or casts/slings).

--Neighbor Lady

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Oh no, poor Neighbor Boy! I hope the injury turns out to be minor. Hugs, NL.

esperanza said...

Crossing fingers for a sprain or bruise or something for NB.

Mr. E has procured supper. Things are looking like I might survive the day.

Anonymous said...

Update:
They are back (already!) and it is a sprain. There is a sling, but not mandatory to wear, and no activity restrictions. So happy and relieved. Thank you all for the good thoughts! Whining works!
And, ordering Chinese food.
Yay!
:)NL

esperanza said...

Yay, whining! Yay, NB! Yay Neighbor Guy! Yay takeout food!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

What a relief, NL!! And takeout is a very good idea today.

kathy a. said...

((( NL and NB ))) So glad it's not serious! But, no ER visit is an easy ER visit. Everybody gets a treat. xoxoxo

kathy a. said...

AW: Date night, dinner out! Daddy gets to take the call about somebody's tax question, which I'm pretty sure wasn't his ideal way to end an evening, but kids are forever. xoxo

esperanza said...

W/AW: got a lot of yard work done today, in absolutely perfect weather. Low 70s, low humidity, sunny. And now I'm tired.

W: And I still need to do laundry.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I'm definitely not staring out at a yard full of snow, and envying esperanza's perfect weather.

But we were actually excited about 2C/36F weather, because: melting! Not too frozen, so that Mr. Q was able to fix the garage door and the gate (a lot of outdoor broken stuff has been waiting for warmer weather).

kathy a. said...

Melty weather! Go, team.

Laundry will get done when it gets done, except for emergencies. If you are washing stuff in the sink and blow drying it, that's an emergency. IMO. (Don't try this with sheets, just sayin'.)

I'm so exhausted. My beloved took Le Dog for a big old walk, and then had to leave again. My beloved is stressed about his work stuff. The dog is coping, but will go to day care with his buds tomorrow, because a Dog Goddess like me can tell when trouble's brewing. And, all day, also, some other stressy unbloggable stuff that I've been trying to negotiate. I meant to turn in early tonight, but whatever.

xoxo
