Moving right along; or, how to turn your house into a warehouse

Since daughter intends to move totally out of state in 3 weeks -- and swears she is not returning to her old room ever again -- a lot will be happening between now and then!  Really a lot has to happen this week, so she can get the movers all lined up and tell them exactly what she is hauling.  Therefore, the boxes are starting to pile up, and I have high hopes for the designated "donation" sector of the dining room, too.  A chunk of the dining room table is now dedicated to kitchen stuff -- things that belong to her, things that might be useful.  This Will Get Done! Which will bore and/or annoy everybody to tears; apologies in advance.

So, y'all need to come up with some better material than is available chez moi!

xoxo

Trying to figure out how to synch the recommended schedule for toddler with the holiday schedule in our proposed parenting plan is giving me a huge headache.

kathy a. said...

((( PK ))) Well, you can't give in on the proposed toddler / mama time. Not sure if there are flies in the ointment, like someone wanting a wad of time away. Sending love. xoxo

** Not "proposed" -- "recommended."

kathy, thanks for hosting again. I keep forgetting what day it is, and before I know it - it's Monday again!

This too shall pass re: the Big Move for your daughter. It will be frustrating for you in the mean time, so that sucks, but soon it will be done.

((((pk)))) Sending hugs.

Moving sucks, kathy a. So stressy.

W: nail in tire
AW: just a slow leak, the car told me about it, and easily fixed by the tire people

W: which delay led me to being at the grocery store at the busiest time of the day, with Baboos in tow
AW: they were excellently behaved at both establishments

Thank you for hosting again, Kathy! Like Sue, I also keep losing track of Mondays right now. But I did add my name to the hosts, this time!

Hugs hugs hugs, PK.

Esperanza: that's a real rollercoaster of whines anti-whines! I'm glad that things turned out better than expected, in spite of the nail in the tire, and the need to drag Baboos through the grocery store at the busiest time of day.

Oh my goodness, everyone. I'm TIRED. Mr. Q is running robot camps this week, and I've hit the ground running, trying to keep E busy and happy. (She was so sad this morning, "But I thought you told me that you're on summer vacation now!") She helped me weed the garden, hang pictures on the walls (finally, only a year and a half after we moved in), and bake a mango-lime meringue pie. But I spent the entire afternoon running, and my feet are now very unhappy with me.

Knocking wood: possibly good news about that healthcare bill tonight. I really hope they leave it alone now.

kathy a. said...

Some of the people promising to vote against the hideous bill are opposed because it is Not Yet Mean Enough. Still, it's going nowhere fast right now, and that's good news.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

...and now they're trying straight-up repeal again?!

kathy a. said...

NO, just that one person is saying that. Won't happen.

In potentially related Old Skool News, senior cat set an indoor distance-coverage barking record. As far as I can tell, she's fine and waiting for the trophy.

Sue said...

esperanza, I'm glad the tire trouble was sorted with as little drama as possible. Still annoying though.

Sorry about the tired feet, QWP. Summer "vacation" is rough!

W: my massage therapist was grumpy today. My shoulders are feeling her wrath tonight. Ouch.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

And Kathy/senior cat get an award for bringing the bodily fluids! (By the way, that is simultaneously impressive and gross, Senior Cat.)

esperanza said...

re: straight up repeal. It is my understanding that such an idea would require 60 votes, which is...considerably challenging. More politically minded pixies may feel free to correct my naivete, if necessary.

Senior Cat: ew

Sue said...

Old Skool to kathy and senior cat. Impressive...and ew.

Liz said...

Am banging my head against a useful online tool to make part of its usefulness work.

Hugs to PK, I have faith that you will prevail.

QWP and Esperanza, may you have better weeks than Monday foretold.

Kathy totally wins the Bringing the Bodily Fluids Award.

kathy a. said...

Espearnza, think that's exactly right -- they were using the "reconciliation" process to gain a procedural advantage, only needing to carry it by a simple majority. I don't see any way they could get 60 votes for a straight repeal.

kathy a. said...

The repeal and do something else later idea is officially a no-starter, even if we're talking a simple majority.

YAY, daughter's been approved for the apartment!! It is all hers in 2 weeks. Now she's working on movers -- I think the actual move-in date will depend on when they can get the stuff there.

esperanza said...

Wow, new apartment! (Aside: Mini is fascinated by the idea of apartments. She's never seen one, I guess, and thinks it would be fun to live in one. The part of me that dislikes yard work agrees).

W: Another long day. One of my church guys had emergency surgery last night for a blood clot in his leg. He's doing fine. A hospital visit extended my afternoon considerably.

AW: there was an appropriate activity at Mr. E's church that the Baboos could attend sans parents while I went to visit at the hospital. I am pretty opposed to exposing Baboos to hospital germs unless absolutely necessary.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Hooray for daughter's new apartment! I'm so glad that it's all coming together so well, Kathy.

Esperanza, I'm cracking up about Mini's fascination with apartments. I have to confess: for the whole time we lived in an actual apartment building, E was fascinated with them too (we rode an ELEVATOR to our HOME! We looked out our window over the city and a creek!). She's just as over basement suite living as the rest of our household is. But, after all those shared walls, floors, and ceilings, she's still thrilled that she can shout and jump all she wants to, and that no one is ever being loud over her head when she's trying to go to sleep.

I'm glad that there was a church activity for the Baboos, and they didn't need to go to the hospital. I hear you about the hospital germs. (I confess that I'm more worried about mine spreading her kid germs to all the recovering people in the hospital.)

Sue said...

Yay for the apartment, kathy!! Now you have a timeline for the move, which helps also.

esperanza, I hear you about hospital germs. I'm glad the Baboos had somewhere else to be while you did your visiting. That's hilarious about Mini's fascination with apartments. :) We don't have a lot of children who live in our building, but LOTS of grandchildren who visit on weekends. They love the elevator.

kathy a. said...

Yes, elevators are big fun! I used to have to make the kids take turns with the buttons, such was the excitement -- one got "up" and the other got "down." Elevators are not so fun in hospitals, though, plus the whole "free germ exchange" aspect.

We *almost* have a timeline! No date picked for move-in; don't know how long it will take for the truck to arrive... There is a good estimate on the cost of moving, though. And really, it's OK if the truck arrives a couple days later -- some stuff will go with her in the car, and she'll be buying a bed locally (which can be delivered at her convenience), and ordering a sofa (also should arrive at a convenient time).

W: More barkage. AW: More laundry in progress.
W: Sewer line problem. AW: rescue r00ter coming by later.

kathy a. said...

Political commentary: I just love the CBO! Right along the time that our prez was declaring that passing something something healthcare deal was "close," and also apparently threatening senators who did not get in line, the non-partisan CBO issued a report saying that a straight repeal of the ACA would toss 32 million off of health care altogether, and also double premiums for most people. Which is a horrifying prospect, and unlikely to persuade anybody to decide this is a good idea. Facts for the win!

kathy a. said...

I forgot! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SUE!!! xoxo

esperanza said...

W: Explain this to me. Our county is under a "burn ban." Because of dry weather. To prevent wildfires. We are prohibited from any open flame. Only grills with covers are allowed. So the wildlife management something or other schedules a prescribed, controlled burn for today, not too far away from our house. Not surprisingly, it got out of control and has burned 50 additional acres and is listed as "uncontrolled." Why would they do this during a burn ban? At the very least, it's a terrible example to set.

W: So tired. Too much Baboo time this week, with bad-attitude Baboos.

kathy a. said...

Esperanza, I cannot 'splain the inexplicable. Also sorry about Baboo overload. Ice cream?

esperanza said...

I was so desperate for a moment alone that I left the house (Mr E was home) and went to the park, where I sat by both stagnant water and poison ivy. I stayed for an hour, until the mosquitoes ran me off.

kathy a. said...

Oh, there has to be some kind of prize for that, Esperanza! xoxoxo

esperanza said...

I did not touch the poison ivy, just sat near it. There were also ripe, wild grapes, helpfully tangled up vine in vine with the poison ivy. (The wild grapes we have here are super acidic, good only for jelly or wine, not eating straight).

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Hippo birdie to Sue!

Esperanza, the choice to sit by stagnant water and poison ivy, in exchange for alone time, is prize worthy indeed.

We moved E's bed into the corner of the room (after she begged for that forever, but we'd had to move it into the middle of the room, away from curtains and temptations to peek outside instead of sleeping, when we moved here). She had one good night there, and then tonight she clearly pulled open her curtain, and then woke herself up an hour after falling asleep, convinced it was morning. (The sun stays up LATE in the summer, this far north). She's been reminded that she has one more chance to keep her bed in the spot where she wants it.

AW: I found a good bed with a headboard from Eye-Key-A, which will allow us to bring her bed away from the window, while still allowing her to have a wall at her side. I just have to wait for our friends, who are sharing the flat-fee shipping with us, to get their order together. (We're 6 hours from the nearest store, but we just got a collection point, which brings down the cost of shipping.)

Liz said...

YIKES Esperanza!

Ah QWP, I remember those days "IS IT MORNING NOW?" NO. MM's room has lots of good walls against which to put a bed, and back in those days he slept against the most interior one with blackout curtains (actually a doubled-up old dark green flannel sheet). He's currently near the window with just blinds, but he's also 15 and would sleep til noon if we let him.

kathy a. said...

Day 2, waiting on the r00ter professionals.... We have moved along to the third 2 hour slot.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Liz: the only viable interior wall in E's room is shared with the bathroom! At least the "IS IT MORNING NOW?" days are relatively rare, and E is pretty determined to keep her bed in that one corner. And, once the bed with the headboard arrives, her bed won't have to be crammed right in the corner, with the curtain right in her face.

Kathy, you're still waiting? I hate sitting around, waiting all day, and then having them not show up at all.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I feel like I need some sort of award: I went through an entire C0stc0, with a kid in town, and only spent $8! (Or $14, if you include our lunch.) It helped that my main purpose was to pick up a poster that I'd had printed in the photo lab, and then even though we toured the rest of the store, the kid kept begging for it to be lunchtime already (and I didn't want to haul her through the long line for the till, when she was already hungry and could see the giant hotdog sign). Apparently taking a 4-year-old shopping sometimes keeps the bills down!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Kid in tow, not kid in town. And I'm on my laptop: I can't blame autocorrect!

Yikes about kids waking up too early! And driving people to sit with stagnant water and poison ivy.
Happy Birthday Sue!!!!!
Kathy, hope the guy eventually showed up.

AW: Just returned from wonderful vacation and a wedding of a dear family friend in Switzerland. SOOOOO beautiful! Had never been, and was amazed.
Now am trying to catch up and also clean out the "study" that has been getting piled high all year with teacher junk because (yay!) my niece is coming to stay with us for 3 weeks starting this weekend!

Nice to be back and catch up with you all!
Hugs to everyone!!!

NL -- that sounds like such a wonderful vacation!!

And hope the visit by your niece is loads of fun, too!

Daughter has discovered and is going through some boxes stashed in her dad's study. She just found magazines and papers she had saved from Obama's inauguration...

Liz said...

Kathy, I love when that happens.

All, I'm having trouble buckling down today.

kathy a. said...

Another good find -- several ancient t-shirts of mine, kept for sentimental reasons but believed lost. Yay!

The rooter guy is finally here! Yay!

kathy a. said...

The rooter guys are done! And gone! We have to have the sewer line replaced, which we've known for a few years. Guy #2 really wanted to show me the camera pictures of the line, and then he wanted my husband to be here next time so they can sell a replacement line (they can arrange financing!). Thought that was pretty funny (I was saying no, not now; and he would have gotten the same answer from my beloved), but I promised I'd give The Man the business card.

We've been waiting on certain repairs until after the wedding and after daughter is out of the house. But no need to explain all that to Mr. I'ma Sell You a Sewer Line. ;)

esperanza said...

AW: Mr. E got Mini to sleep about an hour earlier than every other night this week. Let's hope that means tomorrow will be less melty.

W: today was melty

Sue said...

Thanks NL! Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation!!

That's an award-worthy trip to the Very Big Store, QWP!

Here's hoping for more sleep and less melty, esperanza.

kathy, I'm glad you didn't buckle under the Sewer Line Sales Pitch. All in good time.... though seriously, that must be a crap job. :)

Good news folks! My A1C (3 month average of blood sugar) went down from 6.4 (right below diabetes) in January, to 6.3 in April, to 5.8 (just within pre-diabetes range) yesterday.

I need to eliminate more carbs and exercise more to get out of pre-diabetes-land but I'm happy that the pretty mild changes I made had an effect.

YAY!

kathy a. said...

Go, Liz! Great news.

Bleah. Minor case of the plague -- achy, tired, stomach wants soup.

There should be details about moving when the mover calls daughter back tomorrow.

p.s. had a great weekend with cousins and their parents. Niece is now with us for three weeks. Saw the touring show of W1ck3d last night and it was FANTASTIC!
