Any big plans for the 4th?

Maybe our local fair; not sure.  They have music, rides, craft sales, lots of food, giant flags around the field, a whole street for visual artists, etc.

It's raining, and I'm glad. I'm not setting foot outside today.

Ugh, Liz!

I will probably skip our fair; still some loose ends on the albatross. And I have put off getting in better shape, so that kind of hike would destroy my poor back. Self-improvement project for after the launch -- getting my back in better shape.

Happy July 4th to all our US Pixies!! Whatever you decide to do today, I hope it's a good one.

AW: Happy dance today DAY OFF!!! Yay!!

BBQ chicken wings at my house! Well, there were some. Actually, Mr. BBQ ate most of them. But they were good!

The big firework shows around the Bay will start in more than an hour. It's cloudy and the fog is coming in, so there won't be much to see, but I'm sure we'll hear them. Even with the double-paned windows. Except the dog, who is blessedly quite deaf now, and didn't notice the nearby civic show last night. The cats, however, have heard a few random illegal blasts, and will be on high alert come 9:15 p.m.

Oh, my -- quiet in here! We dealt with the BOOMS last night with a little dose of catnip, so the cats were all "ooooh, shiny!" and "I'd better jump around in the air!" All was well. Also, the humans earlier ate a little bbq and etc., so happiness on that front, too.

I'm still immersed in some albatross details, but WOOT, the end is in sight! Thursday launch, just to leave time for the whatevers. ;)

Woot!!! So happy for you Kathy!

kathy a. said...

Maybe not woot at all. Some monkey wrenches have shown up, so it might be another month. MONTH, and for reasons not of my making. This is killin' me, so I'm going to netflix therapy.

Long day, but I think the kink in the works has kinda straightened out. And there were so many emails that I never did get to n3tflix! Yet! LOL ;)

In other news, daughter took the dog to see the vet about the (really benign) bump on her back, and he found something else on her vulva that might end up causing pee problems. So my guess is that the Dog Man will vote for everything to be taken care of at once. The dogness herself is outside celebrating something or another with random happy barks. All is well.

I'm glad some albatross kinks have been straightened out. Aw, poor pup - at least she's having a happy barky time.

W: Wedding last weekend, another one this weekend. Weddings are massive time-sucks. They are beautiful and lovely and celebratory...but oy, I'll be glad when this second one is done.

AW: Despite numerous short-lived thunder storms over the past week or so, no head pain.

kathy a. said...

Hooray for no headache monster! Despite provocation! Sending good wishes for another lovely wedding, but can see how back-to-back festivities are really a lot.

Oh, Pixies. I'm down to pacing and waiting on various things that other people need to do, before the final flight of the albatross. Have acquired dinner for the family. Have acquired materials for the flight. [OK, boxes and tape.] Have prettied up some stuff that needs to accompany the albatross. Pace pace pace.

Beloved definitively does not have cancer. I'm so relieved.

W: Why America? Why? Please do better.

kathy a. said...

Miranda, so good she doesn't.

I dunno, the news out there is discouraging....

Liz Miller said...

YAY FOR NO CANCER!!!

I'm so sad and angry about cops killing black people.

Miranda said...

Even more heartbreaking than the cops killing black men are the people who refuse to see the humanity in their fellow Americans who happen to be black.

Lotta bad bad badness out there. This seems to be a totally senseless shooting, quite possibly due to poor training as well as a profound lack of ability to see others as humans. It happens, and happens, and happens. Gah. Hugs to all mamas, everywhere.

AW: The Albatross has flown away!!!! This has been one of the hardest launches of an albatross, for 3,000 unbloggable reasons. Things will still come up, but that mountain has been climbed, and the large bird set free. Or maybe I'm set free. Whatever!

Trying to decide what I am *not* cooking tonight -- pizza? Japanese? burritos? thai? chinese? The really good pizza is too far, so that narrows it down, but extras will be passed around!

We got a summer schedule worked out, and finally came to a detailed agreement today. He pushed every boundary and tried to get me to agree to more time than the judge actually ordered, and expected me to give up some of my scheduled residential time to make up for his missed overnights due to a week-long work trip and his family event. But I stood my ground, agreed to only what I felt was reasonable, and told him that if he wanted more parenting time than the judge specifically ordered he would need to do the abuser treatment and keep me in the loop on it. He actually backed down and didn't fight me on the visitation schedule as much as I expected.

Toddler is having some fairly major issues that may or may not be stress related. And STBX did something stunningly inappropriate, super disturbing and kind of scary, but maybe not quite rising to the level of immediately actionable.

Liz Miller said...

Yay to PK for standing your ground and making him back down. Please keep documenting his inappropriate, disturbing, and/or scary behavior and keep your attorney informed. Do you still have a restraining order?

P_K said...

Yes, there's still restraints on communication (we can communicate through an app designed for divorce situations), going to each other's houses, and finances. Lawyers, pediatrician and therapists are being kept in the loop as appropriate.

Sue said...

Yay for no cancer, Miranda!!!!!

Hooray for bye-bye Albatross, kathy!!! WooHoo!!

I'm glad you stood your ground PK. Keep documenting. xoxo

I don't even know what to say about cops shooting black people. I am sad and mad and frustrated.

kathy a. said...

PK, good for standing your ground. Good he backed down, too.

No words about all the shooting.

Liz Miller said...

GAH. The good, liberal people of Loudoun did NOT coordinate and set up three, count 'em, THREE vigils for TONIGHT.

TALK TO EACH OTHER, PEOPLE.

Looks like I helped them get straightened out. By sending email addresses and phone numbers hither and yon.

kathy a. said...

Go, Liz! But yeah, some central organization in the first place would be good...

One last tiny picky albatross-related detail is FIXED! And I'm so glad about being friendly to people who notice those things, and call up right away.

Sigh. My SIL had at least 2 falls today, one taking down a caregiver who was walking with her. Nobody badly hurt, whew.

Briefly checking in..the Baboos and I are back from camp, where I had phone access but no internet. And for some reason I can't master blog comments from my phone.

We had a good time, but the Baboos are exhausted. I'm refreshed--it felt good to be doing something outside of the house; it felt really good to have a break from the Baboos for part of each day; and it was good to be amongst my tribe. Not too sunburned, not too many bugs, and though it was hot, there was a good breeze every day and my cabin had a/c.

Heartbroken and sick to hear the news of the week.

kathy a. said...

Yay, camp! So glad you are refreshed, Esperanza! And -- it's not bad that the Baboos are tired. I assume this was very exciting!

Yeah, lots of bad this week. Love, everybody.

xoxo

And from the "Ironic enough that it tickles me" department: it is only after moving FROM the country TO the city that Mr. E has his first church member in the hospital with a rattlesnake bite.

kathy a. said...

Ha! City people. ;)

(I'm one of those city girls, but got enough training in how to be afraid of every possible threat to avoid snakes, especially the rattly ones.)

Cleaned my room. Well, not cleaned so much as put things away. Vacuuming tomorrow, and dusting, then canvassing for Clinton and Bennett

Also, saw Tarzan last night. Yum.

We went to the regional park, and saw TWO baby cows at the Little Farm! Wandered off to the lake and saw turtles sunning on a log. There was a gorgeous deer munching along the path, also. Many tiny humans, as well.

My husband loves the baby cows, and wanted to bring one home.

I'm back from camp, you guys! And we did really well (although we are very tired and did not asleep enough).

Miranda: hooray for the news of no cancer!

P_K: I'm glad that you stood your ground and STBX backed down, but am also concerned about his scary behaviour. Hugs.

I am catching up on the news. Just awful.
