Soooooooo Tired Edition

The last of the wedding festivities was an open house yesterday, at the in-laws.  Apparently the happy couple kept partying until an unspeakable hour, so they arrived late, but it was casual and nice, people drifting in and out, someone tossing more food on the buffet every so often.  We contributed a bunch of leftovers, since I definitely over-bought for the picnic.  The rest of the GS cookies turned up at the in-laws' house, too.

After, I took a nap, ate a snack, and went to bed for close to 10 hours.

Anybody want some pineapple?  Watermelon?

What's going on with you?

ETA:   Cat in a box with tablecloths.  I'm pretty sure more of this kind of stuff would make the entire world better.

I'm glad it went well. Still waiting here.

((( PK ))) It's gotta be soon, right? xxoo

So many hugs, pk. So frustrating.

Please share some pineapple, Kathy.

W: I had the fun experience of having the child who behaved worse because her mom was the classroom helper (end of the year party today), and then she had a meltdown on the way home, and then she had a ridiculous tantrum at home that involved her locking herself in the bathroom, and apparently shoving some toilet paper up a nostril. I think it's all out now, but she gave herself a bit of a nosebleed. She also wept about missing her dad (who came home from how trip yesterday afternoon, but was back to work today) for a while before lunchtime. She's calm now (after pooping more than I've ever seen come out of her in her whole life), and having a long quiet time.

Oh, QWP. That sometimes happens. E's just getting used to sharing -- in this case, sharing you.

The GAL sent a note to the lawyers Friday saying she'd made progress on the report but would probably need the weekend to finish it. Haven't gotten the report yet.

kathy a. said...

Cluesticks, PK, to the GAL. But meanwhile, fingers remain crossed!

My son prudently left his truck here so he wouldn't drive drunk after his wedding. It's still here, but he will ride up here and pick it up in a while. I have prudently boxed some of the excess produce (watermelon, corn, pineapples) and then some, for him to take home. Win, win, win!

Queen of West Procrastination said...

That's some smart thinking, Kathy!

PK, after all this, this had better be one excellent GAL report, seeing as it will be half a month late.

Sue said...

I'm glad the wedding went so well, kathy!! Great idea to box up fruit for any and all visitors, including the groom. :)

(((pk))) Cluesticks to the GAL - I agree, this better be a report worthy of the wait!

AW: Son and partner arrive for a short visit over the weekend to attend our pride events. It will be the first "smaller city" pride parade for our son's partner, as he's lived in the big city his whole life.

kathy a. said...

Yay for the visitors, Sue! And the parade.

I guess some basketball thing got resolved last night. Everybody in our area has been completely nuts lately, like this was important or something. Someone even figured out how to get a feed of the action *at* the festive picnic on friday; other guests simply left early so they wouldn't miss anything. (I so do not get it...)

We've been living on leftovers, but I shall attempt something else for dinner tonight.

There's a box of tablecloths we didn't use at the picnic (another bit of over-preparation), and it is still sitting around because our Junior Cat decided it is her royal throne, and she is very happy in there. She has abandoned flopping by my keyboard -- the box is that good. ;)

Remember that Skype interview that got postponed until today? I left the dining room set up for it, lights in the proper places, laptop set up at the right height, etc.

This morning, I did my hair and makeup, and put on my camera-ready blouse and suit jacket, sat properly, double-checked everything and........

The guy called on my cell phone, I asked if I should call him back using Skype and he said, "Oh! I'm sorry! I can't do it over Skype today because I'm out of the office. So we'll just do it via phone."

.....

I COULD'VE DONE THE INTERVIEW IN MAH JAMMIES AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME!

kathy a. said...

Well, that was not very polite of him! Did it go OK anyway?

I just unloaded a bunch of excess produce on my neighbors, whose adult son is visiting and there are other relatives in town. Also had a lovely chat with them -- the son's daughter was recently married, too. Win!

Wrong, Liz, just wrong. I think you may need to reconsider whether you want to work for such an organization. :)

I'm at camp this week. Fun but exhausting. Baboos feel the same. Also grumpy.

I forgot to share a bit of good political news from Big Red State: San Antonio voted out the msyor, who had been opposed to sanctuary city status, as well as some missteps on other items. A college classmate of mine won a city council seat there, too. All very exciting.

Woot, Esperanza!

Since my son's truck is still here, I tossed some rice in the back (not allowed at the wedding venue) and added a colorful picnic paper lantern to the passenger side. And made another box of drinks and olives, which is a weird combo, but stuff my son likes. Plus, will have a bag of goods from the fridge.

All the lettuce had to go, though. Bought way too much.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Have a good week at camp, esperanza! And very good election news!

Well done sharing the produce, Kathy! (Sorry about the wasted lettuce.)

I hope this hassle results in a good job for you, Liz!

E and I went and picked out plants for her teachers: strawberry hanging plants, and they're some special variant that's white and tastes like pineapple. E picked them. (I hope they're not overloaded with plants: I do know that E's bestie also got them lucky bamboo plants. I tried to go in the direction of "something that produces food, which you could actually transplant to your garden," since they both garden.)

I'm going to over-analyse teacher presents every year. I'm married to a teacher, and have opinions about presents that they get. (No more mugs! No desk ornaments! No high-maintenance plants, unless you know that the teacher can handle them!)

GAL report came. Could have been better, could have been worse.

Thinking of you, PK

I had a midnight snack of herring followed by cherries and then ice cream, and was going to tweet about it, but realized that I am unable to tweet the words, "I ate herring" on a night when most of my friends in Virginia politics are glued to Twitter.

kathy a. said...

((( PK ))) You know where to find us, if you want to talk. xoxo

LOL, Liz!

QWP, I think teachers appreciate plants more than teaching-oriented knick knacks. :)

I will cook an actual meal tonight.

kathy a. said...

Dear lordy. More shootings. The one in DC; another in SF.

Liz said...

Another in Brooklyn.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

So many hugs to everyone. To pk, with the arrival of the GAL. To everyone, with all the shootings today.

Liz, that really is some midnight snack. What kind of dreams does one have after herring, cherries, and ice cream?

We are successfully finished with the last day of school. Next alone time scheduled for mid-September.

kathy a. said...

No no no no, QWP! It is really important to schedule some "not on duty" time between now and September! xoxo

Can I snark? OK, thanks. This is small and petty of me, just so you know. The girlfriend of the brother of the bride showed up for the wedding wearing mostly white, and a *huge* floral crown on her head. What was she thinking? During setup, this same young woman just started sticking decorations (hand-crafted and exquisitely planned by the MotB) on the walls, which kind of messed up what the MotB had in mind -- because why? Not real biggies, just.... odd.

r.e the get-up for the wedding.... perhaps it was meant to be a hint to her boyfriend? sheesh!

Yikes, Kathy!

I volunteered at the preschool graduation (as a parent of a returning preschooler), and it was lovely but now I'm exhausted. Also, a teenager who was doing yearbook photos suddenly realised that she will be 30 when E graduates from high school, which led me to realise that I'll be 50, which caused that grade 11 girl to become visibly horrified about how old I am. (I refrained from joking that I'll have to tell my husband to fail her in science for making me feel decrepit.)

W/AW: I'm a puddle of feelings, after the last day of preschool and the graduation. Helping the kids from the 4/5 year old class get into their caps and gowns really reinforced my choice to hold E back for a year (she was born in the same year as them, but in December, and they all acted so much older than she does). So: feeling good about my choice, but also not so good about the realisation that she's a little less mature than other kids her age.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Sorry about that sudden dump of emotions. I'm very tired, and E has been a handful lately.

kathy a. said...

((( QWP ))) End of the year can be emotional! Ignore the teenaged helper -- one day she, also, will be in the middle of life instead of near the beginning.

My husband had to move a meeting to an entirely different city, because there is some giant sports-oriented parade today in the city where he works. Public transit was overrun for hours!

kathy a. said...

Ack! I killed the blog with too much wedding 'n stuff!

Or, maybe it's just June, and everybody's got stuff going on. I forget about school years and summertime activities, nowadays.

These long days with lots of light are the best, no?

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I thought I killed it by being moody!

E and I are having a really nice home day: we walked to the mailbox (to mail a very-belated and long-misplaced Christmas card to my uncle, who will find this to be funny), and made earl grey tea and lemon brine for the turkey we're grilling on Sunday. Now E is putting the finishing touches on a card for her daddy (she wants to finish it before he gets home, and then hide it with the present she made at preschool). We also spent a long time sitting on the front step, counting cars that drove by, but rain forced us inside. Coming up with a list of little things to do during the summer has been helpful for both of us!

Every afternoon this week (I'm at camp, you remember?) I have had to deal with a church related matter. Not my own congregation, but a committee. We were directed to do the wrong thing, which we questioned, but were told to do it. So Igot the ball rolling. Then people questioned, nastily, why were doing it. Many emails, texts, and phone calls later, we are backing up and not doing it that way. But goodness, what a way to spend my free time at camp

I've had nothing to whine about or to anti-whine about.

Oh! Yeah! The mitten-cozy thing I made for my tea pot didn't work out.

I've been glued to the nuclear meltdown happening in the White House.

And I'm rage crying over the Philando Castille verdict.

kathy a. said...

Seriously? A committee crisis while you're at camp, Esperanza? Jeepers...

QWP, no worries. Sounds like you and E have found some things to do!

Yeah. Nuke meltdown (hopefully not a literal one) -- that does wreck a week....

I'm not 100% sure my kids remember Father's Day, but have decided it is no longer my job to prompt them. :D

Queen of West Procrastination said...

Esperanza: that is some kind of award-worthy that you're dealing with cluestick-worthy committee members WHILE at camp!

Anonymous said...

I am mostly disconnected from the news, but I did hear about today's verdict. Unbelievable. Except that it is believable, which makes it more horrible.

Queen of West Procrastination said...

This is exactly what I've been feeling, esperanza (I presume it's you, at camp).

esperanza said...

Yes, that was me, sorry.

Back home. Camp = fun. Camp laundry = not fun.

Sweet has retreated to her room for some much-needed introvert time. I, in similar need, ran an errand and treated myself to lunch.

kathy a. said...

The news, a lot of it is evil, and there is a lot of it...

It is really hot for here. We have no AC, so have had all the windows and screened doors open. My beloved decided it was time to cut the grass, without even warning me. He somehow forgot that I am allergic to grass, and also everything is open, and also the mower is LOUD. Bonus: when it is this hot, the front door won't even close because there is this weird metal flashing that warps out from its designated location. Conclusion: crankypants.

esperanza said...

It is also hot here. But we have a/c. I would be way more than crankypants about the open window and lawnmowing without consultation. I think your forbearance is admirable.

W: tired. Can't get motivated to do my work.

kathy a. said...

Esperanza, didn't you just spend a week at camp with a bunch of baboos, plus your own? That calls for some time off!

To clarify -- I may not have been the picture of forbearance when I signaled my beloved (with the international sign for "take the damned sound canceling headphones off") and stated my grievances rather emphatically.

AW: Am using cute patterned tape to hold the front door flashing in, for when I want to close that door. Am declaring this stylish.

esperanza said...

Yes, yes I did. But I didn't want to spend a vacation Sunday, so here I am on Saturday night, trying to figure out something to say tomorrow.

Monday is going to be crash day, I think.

kathy a. said...

I'm no help with that, but sending "love one another" vibes in the hope they go with everything you've been thinking about.

esperanza said...

It does, thanks! Love one another. Make space for the other person. Even if making that space makes you yourself uncomfortable. That's where I'm going. i just need to buckle down and do it.

esperanza said...

OK, done. Kathy, you helped me distill my wild ramblings a bit, so thank you for that!

kathy a. said...

Yay for completed sermonage!

It is so freakin' hot again, hotter than yesterday. It is probably close to 90F here, which is Not Supposed to Happen.

Our wedding-related tasks were not quite over, so we braved a congested bridge, returned the beer stuff to the brewery, and had a lovely lunch! The very last thing will be Dad returning son's truck tomorrow, having gotten repairs done (late birthday present), and also deliver a wedding present that someone left here.

The outdoor classy mall where we lunched featured a LOT of babies. Babies turn my beloved into complete mush, and he pokes me and says "did you see that????" or "that one's so cute!!!!" He also loves the dogs, of course, but the babies won his heart today.

Local Muslim girl was kidnapped, tortured, and killed on her way to prayers at the mosque a few miles from me, that I've visited many times. I have no words

Queen of West Procrastination said...

I suspected that was near you, Liz. How unimaginably horrifying.

So horrible. So unbelievably awful.
