How in the world is it mid-July already? In my opinion, July is the sneakiest month, the month when days are long, but time is strangest. One person might be having a grand vacation that should last forever; the next person is wondering where the last 2 months went and how to move forward on the Work Albatross; another is missing someone; and yet Mama is counting the days until school starts again, already. And so on. Time moves so differently, depending.
AW: Think I'm ready to really tackle the current work albatross again!
AW: Daughter is making a quilt! And sending reams of job applications!
What's going on for you?

You're so right on the whole time thing kathy a. This week is moving like thick molasses, but once my study leave and subsequent vacay starts I'm sure it will fly by.
Yay for quilts, job apps, and tackling the Work Albatross!!
AW: Sunshine, warmth, and a haircut all planned for the afternoon. There's no better time than mid-July to use some of those overtime hours!
* I can host next week if you like. I will need to be added to admin to do so, but I'm off as of Tuesday 23rd, so I'll have time.
Yay! Thanks, Sue! And wonderful you have such good AW's!
Update: The peach jam that I made incorrectly did in fact set. The strawberry jam that I made correctly did not. Apparently I should ignore instructions more often.
I am struggling with job vs 3rd child indecision... as in this job may be hard to deal with but comes with seniority and full pay on leave. But then I would have to stay in a job I am mostly unhappy with for 18 more months (9 months + 3 months leave + 6 months required stay-or-pay-back-your-leave time). But then leaving now means no FMLA and no paid leave at a new job. We are in our last months of not feeling like we are too old to have another baby (or rather, that in 18+ years I will feel too old to have a kid still in school).
Canadian pixies - FMLA = Family Medical Leave Act; means job will still be there after maternity leave, but you have to have worked at the company for most of a year before it applies to you.
My suggestion is stay. Leave w full pay is worth it, and you can do ANYTHING for just 18 more months. Think of it as countdown to retirement. You wouldn't leave a job you hate 18 months before qualifying for a full pension.
Plus, you can think of it as really being only 15 more months, since you won't be *at* the job for the 3 months of leave....
If that helps....
:)

W: a/c out at the grandparents' house
AW: It's only about 85 outside. Could be SOOO much worse.
AW: (!) repair guy got here within 2 hours of initial call.
Real W: we have reached the "I'm bored, I'm going to pick on my sister and argue all day over toys" portion of the summer.
No advice about the job/baby dilemma, except that if you have a baby, it is also good to have paid leave. And, um -- babymaking does not always follow a preferred schedule.
Esperanza, no AC! Have you tried sprinklers or swim time for the small grumps?
Tick! ick ick ick. Successful removal from daughter, 2 days after that dog walk that wandered into tick territory.
Eeeeeew ick ick ick tick! Hate hate hate ticks.
I have no useful advice on the job/baby front. I'm a Canadian pixie with a baby but without any mat leave money, because I'm a student!
AW: eighth anniversary! Nice lunch! Art gallery! Days when it's nice to be married to a teacher.
AW: Li'l behaved herself well at Grandma's, while being left there for 5 hours! Sometimes she refuses to eat or nap while I'm away.
AW: no tornados! Yesterday was exciting, what with the entire province under tornado watches. (Four touched down, but no one was hurt.)
W: Downstairs Girl showed up last night at 11pm (when we were all asleep) to pick up her mail.
Ahem, I should say "Former Downstairs Girl"! She officially moved out, but continues to be an annoyance.
Happy Anniversary, QWP and Mr. Q!
Obviously, DG needs a further visit from the Posse.
Daughter has taken a little break from the quilt, and gotten going on a purse project she forgot about! It's inspiring, all this creativity.
Whining for a friend who is recovering from, I kid you not, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Ick on the tick! Ew.
Happy Anniversary QWP! And yay for L'il E for a good day at Grandma's.
Sorry about your friend Liz. It sounds exotic but I'm sure it isn't.
W: UTIdon'tneedthis. Seriously Universe. Gah!
Congratulations, Sue! You're now an admin!
Liz: Aaaaah! Two times the tick whines! I just read the CDC write-up of the fever, and now I'm shuddering.
Small whine from Li'l E: That jerk of a tooth still isn't coming through, and the spot is all inflamed. She woke up screaming at 10:30 last night, and we had to give her a painkiller. It was so bad yesterday that, when Mr. Q gave her supper last night, she cried when the spoon touched that spot.
Tell me that it'll finally come through soon, right? It's been months of "any time now."
W: E just found an electronic toy I didn't know about, and she is thrilled. Its batteries are on the brink of death, and all of its noises are particularly creepy as a result.
AW: a friend from church is coming over in half an hour, and has promised to be a packing whirlwind in my kitchen for an hour! I just get the boxes and paper ready, and she'll pack as much of the kitchen as can be done in an hour. Exciting.
Liz, hope your friend is better soon. ICK!
Sue, hope you feel better, too.
QWP: moving is the perfect time for electronic toys to get "lost."
Poor Lil E. Those cold teething toys might be just the thing -- the icy coldness can relieve the pain, and gnawing on it might help the tooth break through.
Thanks Liz!
Epic AW:
Called doc office 9:55
Nurse/Secretary said "Come on over now." (She will likely be added to the will)
Across town, including construction, and sitting in treatment room by 10:20.
To pharmacy at 10:30. Prescription ready 10:45 - cost = $10 processing fee.
Back at church at 11:05.
Going home now.
Dang, but I love this country. And my extended health care plan.
Sue, so great you got to see the doc -- fingers crossed you feel better promptly.
You're kinda bragging a little about national health care -- and why not? Seems like it works pretty darned well. It's hard to believe arguments that the US will fall to communism and become a lawless cesspool with death panels and billowing unemployment and cooties, when Canada seems to be managing just fine.
Ya, sorry about bragging - it is rooted in overwhelming relief today. I'm at home waiting for the super-antibiotics to kick in.
Brag away! It boosts the antibiotics! ;)
main computer crashed, and it is taking fireplacing forever to back up the files (but at least they won't be lost, knock wood) and haven't used this laptop in forever so it needed to scan, and i do not seem to have bookmarks on this laptop. but there is coffee and internet access, anyway....
MIL health issues. Complicated by her husband's health issues.
I can't fix any of it except to be a sounding board for DH.
(((Liz)))
((( Liz ))) You are an excellent sounding board. xoxo
p.s. -- I'm sorry your MIL is struggling, and FIL too. Many thoughts for them, and for your sweetie as he tries to help. xoxo
I don't really think of her husband as my FIL as my FIL died 4 months after my DH and I got married. Husband is a nice guy, but now has significant issues

Thanks everybody! MIL is doing better but this is gonna be a long slog. She's in the hospital for at least tonight getting rehydrated. And we got an overnight sitter for her husband. Hopefully, his daughter and grandson will come take him to stay with them or get him full-time care.
Glad she is better. Fingers crossed on his family stepping up. xoxo
